Legal
HMRC Banned From Examining Newcastle United Materials

This news comes after HMRC seized materials from properties of both English Premier League clubs Newcastle United and West Ham United in April.
HMRC tax officials have
been banned from examining material seized from the ground of
English football club Newcastle United, following a legal
challenged made by the club, according to various media
reports.
During a preliminary hearing, High Court judge Mr Justice
Supperstone imposed the ban after the legal team for Newcastle
United applied for a judicial review against HMRC.
The ban will remain in force until a court hearing on 22 June
2017, when the club will return to court.
Reports have said the judge ordered any material retained by
HMRC must be returned to the club. On the 22 June, it is expected
Newcastle will have to show that it has an arguable case to take
it to a full judicial review.
There were no details of the challenge were revealed during
the hearing last Thursday.
This news comes after WealthBriefing reported that both
Newcastle’s ground St James’ Park and the Olympic Stadium, home
of fellow English Premier League side West Ham United were
raided as
part of a £5 million ($6.4 million) National Insurance fraud
investigation.
HMRC seized seized business records, financial records, computers
and mobile phones from both clubs. The investigation was looking
into details of a £5 million
image rights fee paid by Newcastle after they signed Demba Ba
on a free transfer from West Ham in 2011.
