Rothschild & Co
has appointed Matthew James as a managing director and head of marketing and business development in its UK Wealth Management business.

James (pictured) will work closely with the existing Wealth Management marketing team, client advisors and the wider business in developing and implementing the marketing strategy to support greater growth. In this newly-created role, he will be responsible for enhancing communication and engagement with clients, prospective clients and professional intermediaries and raising the firm’s profile and its reputation in the market, the firm said in a statement late last week.

James is a senior marketing and business development professional with over 20 years' experience working in London, New York and Hong Kong for several UK and US global law firms. Most recently, he was director of marketing and business development at Charles Russell Speechlys and, prior to that, chief marketing officer at Fried Frank LLP in New York where he helped redefine the brand offering.

“Our business has grown substantially in the last few years, with a number of key client advisor hires and new regional offices. We are delighted that Matt has agreed to join us to provide additional strategic capability to our front office as we continue to expand,” Helen Watson, CEO of Rothschild & Co’s UK Wealth Management business, said.

“Matt’s experience in advising leading global professional services firms on their successful growth and marketing strategies over the last two decades, helping them enhance their client service offering and strengthen their brand proposition make him perfectly placed to support our Wealth Management business in achieving its growth plans, while ensuring we maintain exceptional client service and engagement,” James Morrell, head of front office, Rothschild & Co’s UK Wealth Management business, added.

Collyer Bristow
has promoted Charles Avens and Charlie Fowler to partner, effective from 1 June 2023. They are both in the firm’s Private Wealth department.

Fowler, who joined the firm last year as head of immigration, will continue in this capacity as a partner. His work spans private client and corporate immigration, providing support to high net worth individuals and their families (and family offices) wishing to relocate, to international entrepreneurs and investors, and UK companies wishing to employ foreign nationals and foreign businesses wanting to start a business in the UK.

Avens has been made up to partner in the tax and estate planning and immigration teams. Avens has developed a strong reputation advising resident non-domiciliaries, UK and international trustees and domestic clients on matters spanning pre-immigration planning, residency and domicile rules, international tax planning and UK wills and estate planning. Alongside Fowler, he also advises on a full range of immigration services, assisting private clients and their families, UK and non-UK businesses on personal and corporate immigration matters.

Sitting as part of the firm’s wider Private Wealth department, the pair are collaborating to support the continued growth of the firm’s immigration practice.

“We are delighted to welcome Charlie and Charles into the Collyer Bristow Partnership. Both continually demonstrate the attributes we expect from our partners including robust, creative thinking for clients requiring complex and individual advice, and a willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients. As we continue to develop and grow our firm, it is a pleasure to recognise the significant contributions and commitments of Charles and Charlie, and we are proud to support them as they take this important next step in their career progression,” Daniel Simon, senior partner at Collyer Bristow, said.
