Charles Stanley Boosts Liverpool Office

Charles Stanley has added Michael Taylor and Anjali Roberts to its Liverpool office, joining a number of firms which have bolstered their teams in the city in recent times.

Taylor joins from MAM Funds, previously Midas Capital, which he co-founded in 2002.

Roberts, meanwhile, was recruited from Close Asset Management, where she had been portfolio manager.

Charles Stanley first opened the doors of its Liverpool office for business just over a year ago, and it would seem that the city – famous as the birthplace of The Beatles – is a priority market for a number of wealth management players.

“Liverpool is a really exciting place to be, there is a lot of historic money here but also entrepreneurial money,” Derek Gawne, branch manager in Liverpool, told WealthBriefing. “Obviously there iare a lot of economic problems at the moment, but we believe that Liverpool is well-structured to come out of it.”

Last week it emerged that Deutsche Bank, which has lost a number of wealth managers to rival firms operating in Liverpool, had appointed two senior managers to oversee operations in the city, as well as making other hires.

Rupert Yeoward joined from Downing Corporate Finance to jointly run Deutsche’s Private Wealth Management business in Liverpool with Katy Dixon, who has worked at Deutsche Bank/Tilney for more than 20 years. They replace Duncan Brookes, who is stepping down from his role as office head to focus on serving clients.

The firm also added John Norbury and Christine Reeves, who both lead groups of relationship managers and directly manage a portfolio of clients, along with relationship manager Nick Phillips and Jenny Cookson, a trainee relationship manager.

The hires represent a turning of the tide at Deutsche’s Liverpool office, since its has lost several senior executives to Cheviot, such as Simon Walker and Mark Ewer. Both are now partners at Cheviot.
