Jefferies boosts West Coast private-client business
Investment banking firm hires advisors from Smith Barney and Credit Suisse. New York-based investment bank and institutional brokerage Jefferies has hired a couple of big-firm wealth-management veterans to help build out its West Coast private-client business.
Matthew Gorelik, formerly a portfolio manager with Smith Barney's wealth management group, will work in Los Angeles; John Sullivan, who joins Jefferies from Credit Suisse's Private Banking USA, will be based in San Francisco.

Charles Baber, head of Jefferies' Private Client Services group, more or less spells out the new managing directors' mandate. "The addition of Matt Gorelik and John Sullivan demonstrates Jefferies' strong commitment to providing corporate and executive services and wealth-management to corporations, their executives and high-net-worth individuals and families in the Western United States," he says.
Gorelik has been a financial advisor for the past 14 years. Sullivan has 29 years of experience.
