MSCI, Barclays Team Up For Global Fixed Income ESG Indexes

MSCI and Barclays have teamed up to create a global set of fixed income indexes with integrated environmental, social and governance criteria.

The indexes will be co-branded and aimed at asset managers and owners with ESG commitments, such as signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investing, and usable as a fixed income benchmark incorporating ESG factors.

The firms will be conducting a series of meetings in the coming weeks with asset managers to find out what their priorities are when it comes to ESG strategies.

“The objective of MSCI’s ESG business is to provide investors with tools to integrate ESG factors across a broad range of asset classes,” said Baer Pettit, managing director and head of the MSCI index business.
