Martin Currie Hires New Sales Manager For London

Martin Currie, the UK-based investment manager, has added John Long to its intermediary sales team in a move to ramp up its intermediary business in London.

Joining the firm as sales manager on 2 August, Long will report to Alan Burnett, head of UK intermediary sales.

Long was latterly head of UK intermediary sales at Stenham Group, where his clients included funds of funds, private banks, family offices, private client investment managers and IFAs. Prior to taking up this role in 2007 he worked at Investec Asset Management for six years, ending his time at the UK- and South Africa-listed firm as head of family offices, having initially joined as an account manager in 2002.

Long’s appointment is the latest in a series of expansionary moves made by Martin Currie, which have included a number of senior hires across the globe and the launch of offices in Zurich, Singapore and Melbourne last year.

Most recently, at the end of last month Martin Currie – outlining its intentions to build out its hedge fund business – announced its acquisition of Sofaer Capital’s European long/short equities business in a deal entailing the transfer of some $280 million in assets under management.
