Northern Trust Boosts Washington Office With Senior Hire

New York-listed Northern Trust has added Timothy Mertz as a senior private banker and relationship manager within its Washington DC office.
Mertz has 30 years of banking experience working with high net worth families, according to Joanie Stringer, managing director of the Washington branch.
At Northern Trust, Mertz will lead the banking team which provides clients with deposit and credit solutions, as well as commercial credit. He will report to Stringer.
Before joining Northern Trust, Mertz spent three years as a wealth management team leader for PNC Bank in Bethesda, MD. He also served in managerial and banking roles at BNY Mellon and Bank of America for over two decades.
In other recent moves at Northern Trust, earlier this month the firm appointed Carl Tannenbaum as its chief economist, succeeding Paul Kasriel, who retired earlier this year.
Northern Trust has offices in 18 US states, with 16 international locations in North America, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. As of March 31, the firm had $4.6 trillion and $716.5 billion in assets under custody and management respectively.
