San Francisco-headquartered Union Bank, part of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has made two internal promotions and a new hire at its private banking division.
As part of the changes, Chris Merrywell has been promoted to regional managing director of The Private Bank, the firm’s private banking brand, in the Pacific Northwest.
Merrywell joined Union Bank from Harris Private Bank in 2008 as a senior vice president, responsible for overseeing offices in Seattle, Tacoma, and Bellevue.
In Southern California, Joe Sweet has been appointed as regional managing director. Based in Irvine, Sweet will oversee offices in Orange County, La Jolla, Inland Empire, San Diego, and Rancho Mirage. He joined the firm in 2001 after 27 years with Bank of America.
Rounding off the developments, Stephen Sherline joins Union Bank as regional managing director for Los Angeles. In this Beverly Hills-based role, Sherline will be responsible for all facets of wealth management including wealth planning, investments, risk management, fiduciary services and banking. He will also oversee the Downtown Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Sherman Oaks, and Woodland Hills branches.
He joins from Fifth Third bank, where he was managing director of investments and led a team managing around $3.3 billion in assets.
