Standard Bank Makes Connection With Renowned Stamp Merchant

The wealth and investment arm of Johannesburg-headquartered Standard Bank has made another alliance in the “luxury” or alternative asset space.

Standard Bank Wealth and Investment has teamed up with Stanley Gibbons, the stamp and prestige collectibles merchant, to boost clients' exposure to the alternative investments market.

The Channel Islands-based company has held the Royal Warrant as philatelists since 1914 and serves collectors and investors worldwide.

The link-up means Standard Bank Wealth and Investment clients will have access to a range of Stanley Gibbons portfolio plans as well as access to the Stanley Gibbons team who can provide them with investment guidance on rare stamps, coins and other prestige collectibles.

“While we have real in-house expertise in the more traditional asset classes which continue to be at the core of their portfolios, we can’t ignore the fact that our clients are also interested in alternatives and luxury investments,” said Deon de Klerk, head of Standard Bank Wealth and Investment, Africa and International.

“To smoothly navigate the growing market for alternative assets, it’s best to have a trusted guide, and in Stanley Gibbons we have an association that is the undisputed market leader in this area. We’re very pleased to now offer exclusive portfolio plans which include options that are not only designed for investors but also those who are buying simply for enjoyment.”

The new association comes as part of Standard Bank Wealth and Investment's enhanced focus on luxury assets, targeting both aficionados of collectibles and investors looking to diversify their portfolios. In July this year, for example, the business teamed up with fine wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd to satisfy demand in this space.
