The latest moves and appointments across the world's wealth management industry.

Deutsche Bank appointed Anum Shahab as director in its wealth management team in the UK. Shabab, who reports to James Whittaker, runs a team focusing on the private capital markets.

Prior to this, Shabab worked at Barclays Private Bank, where she had specialised in covering the private capital ecosystem since 2011. 

Investec Wealth & Investment UK named Barbara-Ann King as its new CEO. She joined the group executive team, together with Lesley-Anne Gatter. King took over from Ciaran Whelan, subject to regulatory approval. King joined as CCO in October 2020 to evolve the business profile and set it on a path for growth. Gatter, head of people and organisation (P&O) in South Africa, replaced Marc Kahn as global head of P&O. 

The private banking head at Italian group UniCredit, Stefano Vecchi, left the bank amid its restructuring. He took the role of CEO in April 2021 and reorganised the group, creating in particular a specific division for Italy, which previous CEO Jean Pierre Mustier had grouped under the Western Europe commercial banking area.

Hargreaves Landsown bolstered its investment research team with a number of appointments. Derren Nathan joined as head of equity research and Hal Cook arrived as senior investment analyst. Nathan came from corporate brokers Hybridan, where he was director of research. Prior to his eight years at Hybridan, he worked at WH Ireland as an equity analyst. Cook was previously at Mercer where he oversaw fund selection and monitoring for their Private Wealth Discretionary Management Service. 

The Liontrust Economic Advantage team, part of UK-listed fund management house Liontrust, appointed one of its existing employees, Natalie Bell, as a fund manager. Prior to this move, Bell worked at Liontrust’s central Responsible Capitalism team, where she led engagement with investee companies from February last year.

LGT, the bank of the Princely House of Liechtenstein, made three hires in Zurich linked to its work with financial intermediaries. The appointees were Dominic Walther, Christian Meili, and Gabriele Di Cristo.

Banque Cantonale Vaudoise appointed former Credit Suisse senior figure Christian Steinmann as private banking head. Steinmann was regional head of French-speaking Switzerland and regional head of wealth management at Credit Suisse. He will replace Gérard Haeberli, who has been in the post since 2009. Steinmann is a Swiss certified fiduciary advisor and Swiss certified tax expert. He holds an MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business, HEC Paris, and the London School of Economics.

JTC made a number of senior appointments, including Zach Mueller as group director of group development in the London office, and William Blewett as director of private client services in South Dakota. Promotions were made across 18 jurisdictional teams, including 33 in Jersey, 24 in the UK, 18 in the US, eight in Amsterdam, five in Mauritius, four in Enniscorthy, two in Cayman, two in Luxembourg, and one each in Switzerland and Guernsey.

Amongst the other senior promotions are Ping Ho for Business Development and Marketing, David Moffat at Fund Services, Emily Mackay at Fund and Corporate Services, Ignacio Terrera at Private Client, Jan Solms at Fund Services, Joanne Lucas at Employer Solutions, Mark Phillips at Fund Services, Paul Markham at Employer Solutions and Suzanne Cross at Employer Solutions. They were all promoted to associate director.

The promotions span teams across JTC’s Institutional, Private Client and Group Central Services divisions, including Fund Services, Employer Solutions, Private Client, Corporate Services, Finance, Human Resources, Office Services, Business Development and Marketing, Risk and Compliance, Regulation, and Banking and Treasury.


Credit Suisse has changed the Romande region of western Switzerland – the western French-speaking corner of the Alpine state. Steve Fragnière took over as head of region Suisse Romande from Christian Steinmann. Nicolas Vaccaro became the new head of private banking for this region. The previous regional head and private banking head for the Romande region, Christian Steinmann, decided to take up a new challenge as head of private banking and executive board member at Banque Cantonale Vaudoise.

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management UK’s Central Investment Office promoted Kamal Warraich to head of equity fund research. Warraich heads the CGWM UK equity fund investment process and chairs the fund selection committee, which sets the equity fund strategy, meets fund managers and makes adjustments to the approved buy list. Warraich, who has been with CGWM UK since the acquisition of Hargreave Hale in 2016, has worked in financial services for over 10 years. He has been an investment analyst for nine years, specialising in UK closed and open-ended funds. He is based at the company’s Llandudno office in North Wales.

Chase Buchanan Wealth Management appointed Paul Lanigan as head of global sales, reporting to group CEO Lee Eldridge. Lanigan has corporate financial experience, including 22 years at Standard Life. Lanigan oversees the current eight offices and private wealth managers spanning Cyprus, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Malta, the USA and Canada.

Forsters, a London real estate and private wealth law firm, elected Natasha Rees as its new senior partner. Natasha Rees joined Forsters from Pinsent Masons in 2001 and became a partner in 2008. Until March this year, Rees was head of the property litigation team. Rees took over as senior partner from Smita Edwards, who has led the firm.

Private client, corporate services and fund administration business Oak Group appointed Jo Gorrod as managing director of its Jersey office. Gorrod has more than 20 years of experience working in the financial services sector in Jersey, focusing primarily on the private client arena, and managing complex structures for high net worth international families. She joined Oak Group in 2018 as a client services director, prior to which she held the same title at Equiom Group.

Natixis Investment Managers promoted Gad Amar to head of distribution for Western Europe. Based in Paris, he oversees France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Monaco, francophone Switzerland and Israel, and reports to Joseph Pinto, head of distribution for Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Asia Pacific, at Natixis IM. Amar joined Natixis IM in October 2021 as an international chief product officer. Amar has 20 years of experience in sales and development activities in asset management. 

Crestbridge, the alternative for private equity and real estate administration solutions, appointed Anne Catherine Grave as country head of Luxembourg to help grow the business. Based in Luxembourg, Grave is responsible for leading the business in the region and building on its reputation as a service provider for fund managers, driven by the firm's expertise in management company services, private equity, real estate, private debt, and venture capital.

International legal and professional services firm Ince appointed Tim Foley, David Sutherland, and Sanna Mir to join its London-based property team. Tim Foley, a property litigator, who is head of property at the firm, has experience in the commercial real estate sector as well as the Supreme Court. Before joining Ince, he was a partner at Fladgate for four years and prior to that, he was at Clyde & Co for 20 years.

David Sutherland also joined Ince as a partner in the London residential conveyancing practice. With over 20 years of experience in the market, he advises on buying and selling leasehold and freehold properties including developments such as Harrods Village, re-financing, transfers of equity and non-contentious lease extensions and variations, the firm said.

Sanna Mir joined as a managing associate in the residential conveyancing team. She specialises in property law and focuses on high end property in central London, such as Chelsea Wharf and the surrounding areas. 

IQ-EQ appointed Stefan Rolf as global head of securitisation and private debt, a newly-created leadership position. Rolf has over 25 years’ experience in financial services and banking. He has worked in Germany, the Netherlands and Singapore in a series of regional and global leadership roles, including global head of securitisation for both Volkswagen Financial Services and ING Bank. 

Boutique high net worth family law firm Lowry Legal appointed Michael Gregory as a partner.

Degroof Petercam appointed Gautier Bataille as the new CEO of Banque Degroof Petercam Luxembourg, and Filip Depaz as group chief operating officer. Bataille succeeded Bruno Houdmont who stepped down to pursue new opportunities outside the group.

Cyprus-based financial services and wealth management advisory firm 3D Global announced that its founder and chief executive, David Rumsey, had stepped down following a management buyout. Rumsey led the business for 25 years from its inception. 3D Global’s executive team took the reins from Rumsey who remained with the business as a consultant. Mark Nowell, who has been with 3D Global since 2005 and a director since 2013, took on the CEO slot.

UBS named Iqbal Khan as the sole president of its global wealth management division. Since joining UBS in 2019, Khan has served as co-president of the global wealth management division, together with Tom Naratil. Naratil stepped down from his current roles as co-president of the global wealth management division and as president of UBS Americas from October.

Credit Suisse Asset Management appointed Jamie Lewin as head of investment process and oversight. He is based in London, reporting to Filippo Rima, head of investment at Credit Suisse Asset Management. Lewin has over 25 years of asset management experience across asset allocation, macroeconomic and fund research. He joined from Credit Suisse from BNY Mellon in New York, where he has served in various leadership positions over the past 14 years, most recently as head of investor solutions.

Evelyn Partners appointed Matt Dickinson as the firm’s first Cornwall-based investment manager. Dickinson began his career in the financial industry in 2003, quickly advancing to become a risk assessor for a US multinational before securing a place as a derivatives trader. From there, he went on to join the Truro branch of Charles Stanley in 2012 before moving to Walker Crips in 2015. 

Indosuez Wealth Management named Bonaventura Canino as its new Italy chief executive. He took the helm from Marco Migliore who moved to a new role at the firm. Canino reports to Olivier Chatain, CEO for Indosuez Wealth Management Europe. Canino, who joined CA in Italy in 2000, held various management positions within Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank, including executive director of structured finance, head of telecom finance, and senior banker since 2007. In 2021, he was appointed head of credit structuring, private markets and led Crédit Agricole group’s coverage of Indosuez Wealth Management in Italy. Migliore completed his "mandate in Italy" and moved to a new role.

Evelyn Partners appointed Oliver Robson as an investment director. Robson, who is based in London, has 11 years of experience within multi-asset investment management and private banking. He joined after spending five years at Quartet Investment Managers where he was also an investment director. 

The firm appointed Catherine Glennon as a financial planner in its Cambridge financial planning team. Glennon joined from Tees Financial, the independent financial advisor arm of regional law firm Tees, the firm said. She is a financial planner with expertise in working with family law solicitors and supporting clients who need financial planning advice following a divorce.

Geneva-based specialist asset manager Quaero Capital hired Olivier Ken as portfolio manager. Based in Paris, Ken joined Martina Turner, manager of the Quaero Capital Funds (Lux) – Accessible Clean Energy fund – to manage a new strategy dedicated to the transition to a carbon neutral economy. Prior to joining Quaero Capital, Ken was fund manager at Ecofi Investissements. He has has 22 years of experience in the financial industry.

Asset manager GAM Investments appointed Magnus Jahnke as head of Nordics, distribution, based in Stockholm. Jahnke, who reports to Jill Barber, global head of institutional solutions, is responsible for GAM’s distribution strategy in the Nordics, leading business development, client service and engagement with consultants in the region. He joined from Jupiter Asset Management, where he had been managing director, head of Nordics for the past six years. 

Venture capital investment manager Deepbridge Capital appointed Simon Thelwall-Jones to the newly-created role of venture partner.

Edmond de Rothschild appointed two new portfolio managers, Alexis Bossard and Guillaume Laconi, in its equity team, to strengthen its investment capacities. Alexis Bossard joined the equity team as a portfolio manager/analyst. Alongside Kevin Net, he is co-fund manager of Edmond de Rothschild SICAV Green New Deal, an international equity fund focused on climate change. Based in Paris, he reports to Caroline Gauthier and Jacques-Aurélien Marcireau, co-heads of equity management.

Guillaume Laconi joined the equity team as a portfolio manager/analyst. He is co-fund manager of Edmond de Rothschild SICAV Tricolore Rendement, a commitment fund supporting French companies for over 20 years, alongside Ariane Hayate. He is based in Paris.


HM Treasury named Ashley Alder as the new chair of the Financial Conduct Authority. Alder took over from Richard Lloyd, who was appointed interim chair of the FCA in June. Before this, Alder was CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong – a position he held since 2011. He stepped down early to take up the new role in January 2023. He is expected to be in post for a five-year term.

Investec Wealth & Investment appointed Faye Church as senior financial planning director at its Guildford office. Church, whose career spans over 20 years, joined Investec from Close Brothers Asset Management.

The Financial Conduct Authority named six directors and expanded its headcount in areas such as the fight against economic crime. 

Roma Pearson was appointed as the FCA’s director of consumer finance, responsible for the supervision and policy development in the consumer lending and mortgages sectors. Pearson has been at the FCA and its predecessors since 1996, most recently as a head of department in the risk and compliance oversight division. 

Camille Blackburn joined in the newly-created role of director of wholesale buy-side. She is responsible for policy development and the effective supervision of asset management, alternative investments, custody banks and investment research. 

Matthew Long was appointed as director of payments and digital assets, a new role overseeing e-money, payment, crypto-asset markets and leading related policy development. He is a director in the National Economic Crime Command within the National Crime Agency, which has a strategic leadership role for economic crime and illicit finance. 

Anthony Monaghan was promoted within the FCA to director of retail and regulatory investigations, which he has been covering on an interim basis since April 2021. 

Karen Baxter joined the FCA’s enforcement team as director of strategy, policy, international and intelligence in September. She leads the specialised functions that support the breadth of the FCA’s enforcement and market oversight activities, helping to ensure that it has the tools it needs to work effectively. Baxter had a 30-year policing career in senior roles including commander and national coordinator for economic crime at the City of London Police. 

Simon Walls, who was appointed interim director in May, is continuing as permanent director of wholesale, sell-side.

Carey Olsen in Bermuda appointed Matthew Grigg to join its corporate practice as a partner. Grigg joined after after 25 years with Clifford Chance in London, the past 17 of which have been as a partner. 

Oak Group in the Isle of Man appointed Diane Clarke to lead its private client service team. Clarke, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the finance industry, has extensive knowledge of private client structures investing in a wide variety of asset classes. Prior to joining Oak, she held senior and board positions at a number of leading fiduciary providers in the Isle of Man, most recently at Crowe Trust Isle of Man Limited. 

Cazenove Capital, part of the Schroders Group, appointed Stephen Wilson as a portfolio director, forming part of the firm's regional growth strategy. Wilson joined from UBS, where he spent over five years as a senior member of the Newcastle and Leeds team, working with high net worth clients across the North of England. 

HypoVereinsbank added to its private banking and wealth management teams in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe. Melanie Berger and Lorenzo Reina Betancor in Frankfurt joined the financing division in wealth management and private banking. Berger is a credit specialist who started her career at Dresdner Bank in 2002; Betancor is a private banking financing specialist. Both joined from Commerzbank. 

In Frankfurt am Main, it appointed former Deutsche Bank figure Sebastian Goeritz, as senior client relationship manager. He has worked in the industry since 2003, Michael Heim, who has joined HypoVereinsbank, has more than 20 years of industry experience, during which he held various consulting positions at Dresdner Bank and Commerzbank. Most recently, he worked there as an investment manager in Wealth Management Karlsruhe.

Credit Suisse announced that Roger Suter, regional head for central Switzerland, had taken over from Serge Fehr as private banking head for Switzerland. A one-company person, Suter started his career at Credit Suisse in 1993 and was appointed to his current role in 2012.

Withers, the law firm, promoted seven lawyers to partner level from its private client, business and dispute resolution teams. The new partners, who are based in the US and Europe are:

New Haven
Ryan LoRusso is a private client lawyer, advising on domestic US and international tax planning. LoRusso has a particular focus on planning using insurance products.

Milan
Mattia Biasi is a corporate lawyer who works with Italian businesses and international institutions investing in Italy. Primarily working on M&A deals, Biasi has a focus on real estate transactions.

London
George Coleman works with clients on the acquisition and disposal of prime residential property. As well as property transactions, Coleman also advises on landlord and tenant imatters.

Jennifer Dickson is a divorce and family lawyer with particular expertise in cases involving international connections, and trusts or complex corporate structures.

David Holland is a property advisor with a focus on high-value rural and residential properties. Holland advises individuals, trusts and companies on property transactions and related matters such as leases and mortgages.

Mark Lynch works with international and UK domestic companies and high net worth individuals, advising on M&A transactions, joint ventures, corporate reorganisations and boardroom disputes.

Libby Payne assists both businesses and senior executive clients on employment law, including contractual advice and tribunal cases. Payne has particular experience in the sports sector, working with clubs and prominent athletes.

Julius Baer appointed Umang Papneja as the new chief executive of Julius Baer India. Shitin Desai, meanwhile, has retired from the board of Julius Baer Wealth Advisors (India) following more than three decades as the founding member of DSP Investments and later holding senior positions in Merrill Lynch and Julius Baer India. Papneja, who reports to Rahul Malhotra, head of global India and developed markets, took over from Ashish Gumashta who became executive chairman, Julius Baer Wealth Advisors (India). Papneja joined from IIFL Wealth Management where he was the chief investment officer, providing guidance for investment decisions across asset classes including equities, real estate, fixed income, commodities and alternatives with a focus on continuous product innovation. Prior to joining IIFL Wealth in 2009, he was the head of investments at Societe Generale Private Banking in Mumbai, where he created investment products and ideas for domestic as well as NRI clients of the Global Indian Subcontinent team.

Quilter appointed Jenny Davidson as head of strategic propositions, responsible for defining the overarching proposition for Quilter’s platform and investment solutions. She reports to David Tiller, commercial and propositions director. Davidson previously spent more than a decade at abrdn/Standard Life, most recently as global head of wealth tech solutions and prior to that as head of platform investment solutions.


Vermeer Partners, a London-based investment management partnership, announced that Michael Kerr-Dineen is retiring as chairman of the firm. As co-founder of Vermeer Partners, Kerr-Dineen joined the firm as chairman in 2018, working alongside Simon Melling CEO.

Evelyn Partners appointed Nick Reeves as a partner in its London financial planning team. Reeves rejoined the business from Deutsche Bank, where he spent four years as head of UK Wealth Planning & Intermediaries. Prior to Deutsche Bank, he was a partner in the London financial planning team at Tilney, which has recently re-branded to Evelyn Partners following the merger with Smith & Williamson in September 2020. 

London-based investment manager Downing appointed Roger Lewis to the newly-created role of head of ESG. He joined from River and Mercantile where he was group head of ESG, responsible for implementing and overseeing the group’s ESG philosophy and core principles across its investment divisions.

Deutsche Bank appointed Markus Müller as ESG chief investment officer, in addition to his role as global head of the firm’s CIO Office.

Law firm Russell-Cooke promoted four senior associates to partner level, starting in July: Suzanne Mynors is in the Private Client team, Thomas Bond is in the Insolvency and restructuring team, Jemma Pollock is in the family team, and Carla Whalen is in the charity and social business team.


Asia-Pacific
Julius Baer announced new members for its global India and domestic markets franchise. Tarun Jalali, formerly of Emirates NBD Private Bank, joined as group head for non-resident India business in Dubai. He succeeded Kunal Sumaya. At Emirates NBD Private Bank, Jalali worked for about seven years, most recently as head of Global South Asia Business and Africa. Prior to that, he was the head of the UAE Premiere Banking business at HSBC and a Citigold relationship manager for the NRI market. Jalali, who is based in Dubai, reports to Rahul Malhotra, head of private banking for Global India and Developed Markets.

Michael Baechli, group head for NRI business and Japan Singapore head, decided to relocate back to Switzerland. He spent more than 15 years with the bank in multiple locations including Switzerland, Dubai and Singapore and served as group head covering the Global Indian business in Dubai from 2011 to 2016. In 2018, he moved to Singapore.

Kunal Sumaya moved to Singapore to assume Baechli’s role as a group head of Global India and Japan Singapore. He continues to report to Malhotra. 

Indosuez Wealth Management appointed Anne Toledano as global head of real estate. Based in Paris, she reports to Pierre Masclet, deputy chief executive officer of Indosuez Wealth Management. Toledano joined Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank in 2004 as head of real estate financing in Paris. Between 2013 and 2018, she was head of the bank's real estate activities in London before moving to Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank in Paris as a senior banker.

JP Morgan Asset Management, part of JP Morgan, appointed former Bank of Singapore figure Gary Leung as head of retail alternatives, Asia-Pacific clients. Based in Hong Kong, Leung reports to Dan Watkins, Asia-Pacific chief executive, JP Morgan Asset Management. Leung replaced Shawn Khazzam, who relocated to New York late last year to be the firm’s head of retail alternatives, Americas clients.

Goldman Sachs named former Australian federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg as senior regional advisor for Asia-Pacific. He had the role of managing Australia’s economy during the pandemic crisis. He has been in politics for decades, having been elected to the Australian Parliament in 2010 as the member for Kooyong in Victoria. In August 2018, he was elected Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and was appointed Treasurer of Australia. Among other ministerial posts, Frydenberg served as minister for the environment and energy, minister for resources, energy and Northern Australia, assistant treasurer, and had been the parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister since the 2013 election.


Eastspring Investments appointed George Ferraz as regional head of intermediary sales. Ferraz, who is based in Singapore, reports to Wendy Lim, regional CEO of Asia and global head of distribution, marketing and products. He has over 26 years’ experience, and was most recently director of new business development and relationship management at BNY Mellon in Boston, where he was responsible for Asia-Pacific distribution channels. Prior to that, Ferraz spent 18 years at Fidelity Investments in global and channel relationship management roles.

Standard Chartered Bank appointed Samir Subberwal as global head of digital business, in addition to his role as head of consumer, private and business banking in Asia. Subberwal, who has been with the bank for 28 years, played a pivotal role in the direction of MOX, the firm’s digital bank in Hong Kong. Subberwal is still based in Hong Kong, reporting to Judy Hsu, CEO, consumer, private and business banking.

Franklin Templeton appointed Christian Bucaro as head of retail for Asia, and Felicity Walsh as managing director and head of Australia and New Zealand. Based in Singapore, Bucaro is responsible for driving the growth of the firm’s retail business in Asia, ex-Japan and India. Clement Lee, head of retail sales, Southeast Asia and Simon Wong, head of retail sales, Greater China, both report to Bucaro.

Bucaro has over 19 years of experience in retail and institutional business development roles in Europe and Asia. Prior to joining Franklin Templeton, Bucaro was most recently the Singapore CEO and MD, head of strategic distributors relationships, APAC at BNP Paribas Asset Management.

HSBC Asset Management appointed former UBS wealth management figure Charles Li as head of wholesale business for Asia. In this newly-created role, Li is responsible for covering all wholesale clients in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Japan and Southeast Asia. Li, who has more than 20 years of asset management experience, joined from UBS Asset Management where he was head of global wealth management client coverage, APAC and deputy head asset management (Hong Kong). Based in Hong Kong, Li reports to Thorsten Michalik, global head of wholesale, and locally to Daisy Ho, chief executive, Asia-Pacific and Hong Kong.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation appointed former EY senior figure Priya Bellino as head of ESG solutions in Asia-Pacific. Singapore-based Bellino reports to David Koh, managing director and deputy head of corporate banking, Asia-Pacific at SMBC. Prior to EY, she spent 17 years of her career with Goldman Sachs in London and Singapore.

Global Wealth Management appointed Theresa Wong as hedge fund specialist in Hong Kong. Wong joined the firm from Goldman Sachs where she worked for nine years in various positions with a focus on hedge funds.

T. Rowe Price appointed Glen Lee as head of intermediary, Asia ex-Japan, to meet the growing demand for differentiated, actively managed investment products from financial intermediaries across Asia. Lee, who is based in Singapore, reports to Elsie Chan, head of distribution for Asia ex-Japan. With over 20 years of experience in asset management, Lee had previously worked at Eastspring. Before that, he worked with UBS Asset Management as head of wholesale client coverage for Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Union Bancaire Privée appointed Karrie Fung as a managing director, head of structured products for Asia. Fung began her career at Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong, before moving to Fortis Bank and JP Morgan within the equity derivatives team where she covered private bank clients in Hong Kong and Singapore. Fung spent a further eight years at BNP Paribas re-establishing the Singapore team and positioning BNP Paribas as a solution provider among private bank clients.

Impax Asset Management appointed Nana Li as head of sustainability and ESG, Asia-Pacific. Prior to this, Li worked at the Asian Corporate Governance Association, where she was research and project director, China. In this newly-created role, Li is based in Impax’s Hong Kong office. She reports to Lisa Beauvilain, head of sustainability and ESG.

The Financial Markets Authority, the New Zealand regulator, confirmed that it has appointed Margot Gatland as the new enforcement head. Previously, she was in the post ad interim, pending a full-time appointment. Gatland has been with the FMA since December 2017, when she joined as a senior solicitor. She brought extensive experience to the role, having worked at the Serious Fraud Office, Meredith Connell, commercial firms and in government.

Value Partners Group appointed Vincent Ching as head of intermediaries for Asia-Pacific to replace Wallace Tsang who stepped down. Based in Hong Kong, Ching reports to the group’s CEO, June Wong. Ching has 18 years of experience in the fund management and financial services industry. Before his new role, he had been the group’s head of Hong Kong retail distribution since 2019.

Standard Chartered Bank appointed Raymond Cheng in the newly-created role of chief investment officer for North Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Cheng reports to Steve Brice, group CIO. Before this role, Cheng worked at JP Morgan Private Bank where he was the head of Asia equity strategy, leading a team that was responsible for developing Asian equity views and themes as well as issuing security-specific recommendatons. Prior to that, he headed research at Bank of Communications, and Bank of China.

Vontobel Asset Management appointed Lee Wei Kai as head of Asia-Pacific to support clients in the region and grow the business. With an 18-year industry career, he took over the role from Ulrich Behm, who leads Vontobel’s intermediary and partnerships channels in Switzerland. Prior to joining Vontobel, Lee Wei Kai was at Stone Harbor Investment Partners, where he was a partner, head of Asia-Pacific and a founding member in Asia.

Lombard Odier announced that Vincent Magnenat, limited partner and chief executive for the Asia business, had taken on an expanded role as global head of strategic alliances for the bank’s private client franchise. He is based in Singapore and remains as Asia regional head. Magnenat reports to Frédéric Rochat, co-head of the private bank and managing partner of Lombard Odier. 

Private banking and wealth management veteran Francis Liu joined Lombard Odier as chief executive officer for the private clients business in Asia. He is also Singapore CEO. Based in Singapore, Liu reports to Magnenat.

Magnenat has been at Lombard Odier since 2012, joining as Singapore’s CEO and head of private clients, Asia, before taking on a regional portfolio as Asia CEO in 2018. He was invited to be a limited partner of Lombard Odier Group in February 2018. 

Liu joined from UBS Wealth Management in Hong Kong, where he assumed various leadership roles within UBS’ Asia-Pacific wealth management franchise over the last 12 years. Most recently. he served as regional head of the bank’s APAC ultra-high net worth business. 

Julius Baer was appointed Umang Papneja as the new chief executive of Julius Baer India. Shitin Desai retired from the board of Julius Baer Wealth Advisors (India) following more than three decades as the founding member of DSP Investments and later holding senior positions across Merrill Lynch and Julius Baer India.

Papneja reports to Rahul Malhotra, head of global India and developed markets, and took over from Ashish Gumashta who became executive chairman, Julius Baer Wealth Advisors (India). Papneja joined from IIFL Wealth Management where he was the chief investment officer, providing guidance for investment decisions across asset classes including equities, real estate, fixed income, commodities, and alternatives with a focus on continuous product innovation. 


Nomura Singapore appointed Tan Tee How as both chairman of its board of directors and chairman of Nomura Asia Pacific Holdings Co Ltd’s Audit Committee. Tan replaced Michael Lim, who stepped down from both positions.

Tan Tee How was appointed a director on the board of Nomura Singapore and Nomura Asia Pacific Holdings as well as a member of the latter’s audit committee in April 2022. His other board positions include being executive director of Singapore Exchange-listed Chip Eng Seng Corporation Ltd, chair of Singapore’s National Healthcare Group and its Casino Regulatory Authority, and an independent director of Hong Leong Finance.

PIMCO has named Qi Wang, managing director and portfolio manager, as CIO of portfolio implementation. Wang, who has 27 years of investment experience, joined PIMCO in 2010.

Sudi Mariappa, managing director and portfolio manager, who led PIMCO’s global portfolio risk management, became global head of analytics. Mariappa replaced Ravi Mattu, managing director, who retired from PIMCO after a four-decade career in financial services. Josh Davis, managing director, became global head of risk management.

Value Partners Group appointed June Wong as CEO. Wong, who was previously the group's president, joined Value Partners in October 2021. 

Eastspring Investments appointed Terence Lim as chief risk officer and Janelle Yeo as chief financial officer. Lim, who reports to Seck Wai-Kwong, chief executive officer, is based in Singapore and has more than 20 years of experience in the sector. Most recently, he was Asia-Pacific chief risk officer at abrdn, where he provided regional oversight and leadership of the risk and compliance function, as well as enterprise risk across its regional businesses. (abrdn was formerly known as Standard Life Aberdeen.)

The firm also appointed Yeo as CFO. Yeo, who has spent more than two decades in financial services, has been with Eastspring since 2008. Her last role was head of corporate strategy and mergers and acquisition. 

Altaz Dagha joined BrokerTec as a senior director for its products. Dagha, who is based in Singapore, reports to Robert Siddons, senior director, US Treasuries, Asia-Pacific.

 


North America
BNY Mellon Wealth Management named Laura LaRosa as Mid-Atlantic regional president. LaRosa is responsible for developing and implementing a growth strategy to execute across Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Tysons Corner and Delaware. She is based in Philadelphia and reports to Rob Kricena, head of US markets.

Prior to joining the firm, LaRosa was at Glenmede for more than 25 years. She most recently served as a member of the management committee and as an executive director, where she led client development and growth efforts. LaRosa held a variety of senior posts at Glenmede, including director of portfolio management and director of fixed income management.

Hightower appointed Robert Picard in the newly-created executive role of managing director, head of alternative investments in the Hightower Investment Solutions group. 

Picard has 32 years’ experience on both the buy and sell side, having built multi-billion-dollar alternative investment programs at First Republic Private Wealth Management, The Carlyle Group/Rock Creek, Optima Fund Management, RBC Capital Markets and InfraHedge/State Street.

Riskalyze, a wealth management platform for financial advisors, appointed three new executive leaders: Craig Clark as first chief marketing officer, Josh Gray as chief technology officer, and Justin Boatman as chief product officer.

Prior to joining Riskalyze, Clark was the CMO of PDFTron Systems Inc, which was acquired by Thoma Bravo. Gray was CTO at Apex Clearing. Boatman spent nearly seven years at the intersection of “product meets market” for Riskalyze.

US probate and inheritance dispute law firm RMO – operating across the US – added Brian McDonnell as its director of strategy and business operations. McDonnell has worked in the legal sector for more than 15 years. Previously, McDonnell served as the infrastructure practice group operations manager at Nossaman LLP in Los Angeles.

Argent Financial Group, the wealth management firm, promoted Grant Nelson to mineral audit manager. Nelson focuses on determining the accuracy of oil and gas royalties through lease, volumes, price and tax analysis. He reports to David Luke, president of Argent Mineral Management. The job highlights how, in a business such as Argent that covers much of the Southern states of the US, handling mineral rights is an important wealth management task. 

Hopkins & Carley, a preeminent Silicon Valley law, firm added three prominent attorneys, Alma Soongi Beck, Gene Cherng and Paul Jensen, as counsel. 

Beck is a certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law and counsel, based in its Palo Alto office. Beck focuses on trusts, charitable planning, gift and estate tax planning, and post-death administration, including trust administration and probate. Beck also offers consultations on the legal and tax implications of domestic partnerships, marriage and property co-ownership, including for same sex and unmarried couples. Before joining Hopkins & Carley, Beck was a partner with Lakin Spears.

Cherng is an experienced trial lawyer and litigated in the district courts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in various technologies such as network-attached storage, flash memory, computer peripherals, intelligent power distribution units, modular power supplies, display mounts and web locator services. He has also represented clients in trade secret, copyright and trademark cases. Prior to law school, he worked for two years as a bioanalyst at Chiron Corporation.

Jensen joined the Hopkins & Carley Manufactured Housing Group in San Jose. For more than 35 years, Jensen has represented community owners and operators in all aspects of manufactured housing communities law. 

Hopkins & Carley also brought in Ivo Daniele, Kenny Gutierrez, Annie Nguyen and Eber Teceros as associates. Daniele and Nguyen joined the litigation department in the San Jose office. Gutierrez joined the intellectual property group, and Teceros the corporate department in the Palo Alto office.

JTC made a number of senior appointments, including Zach Mueller as group director of group development in the London office, and William Blewett as director of private client services in South Dakota. Promotions were made across 18 jurisdictional teams, including 33 in Jersey, 24 in the UK, 18 in the US, eight in Amsterdam, five in Mauritius, four in Enniscorthy, two in Cayman, two in Luxembourg, and one each in Switzerland and Guernsey.

Asset manager Janus Henderson hired Shoby Kelliher as the new global head of enterprise data management. Kelliher is based in Denver, Colorado and reports to global chief operating officer James Lowry.

Raymond James welcomed financial advisor Fred Fryer to Raymond James Financial Services – the firm’s independent advisor channel – in Bentonville, Arkansas. At Fryer Wealth Planning, Fryer is joined by client service associates Melissa Koenig and Rebekah Fritz. 

Envestnet, a wealth management systems business, appointed Ron Ransom in the newly-created role of group head of environmental, social and governance. Ransom reports to Dawn Newsome, chief business operations officer for Envestnet. With nearly three decades of financial services experience, Ransom most recently served as chief business development officer at Envestnet, where he was responsible for managing Envestnet's go-to-market strategy. 

Rockefeller Capital Management appointed Rose Lee, as managing director and head of investment solutions. Lee leads the strategic development and management of investment and securities products as well as client solutions for the Rockefeller Global Family Office. Based in New York, she reports to Christopher Dupuy, co-head of the Rockefeller Global Family Office. Before joining Rockefeller, Lee served as head of structured product sales and development at Credit Suisse, working at the Swiss bank for six years. Before that, Lee spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs.

Rice Park Capital Management, a Minneapolis-based investment firm, promoted Craig Freel to co-chief investment officer alongside Matt Kennedy, who also serves as co-CIO. Prior to this, Nick Smith, Rice Park founder and CEO, had been co-CIO. 

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, the US law firm, appointed Kira Idoko to join its investment funds practice group as a partner in the New York office. Idoko, formerly senior vice president, private funds at Brookfield Asset Management, focuses her practice on the formation and operation of private funds. Before Brookfield Asset Management, she served as vice president and assistant general counsel at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Idoko began her legal career at Weil, Gotshal & Manges.

Rockefeller Capital Management recruited a family team from RBC Wealth Management-US in New York City. The business, called The Claghorn Group, led by John W Claghorn III, joined Rockefeller Global Family Office and its Northeast division headed by divisional director Michael Parker. Previously at RBC Wealth Management, the group has more than 80 years of combined experience. Other members are: John W Claghorn IV (Jake), senior vice president and private wealth advisor; McKay Claghorn, SVP and private wealth advisor; Elizabeth Yermes, associate vice president; and Jack Browne, senior client associate.

The founders of Old Town Advisors, based in New Mexico, joined Concurrent Advisors and Raymond James. Presidents David Baland and Liatriz Levy, and client relationship manager Amanda Burrows previously managed about $300 million in client assets.

Rockefeller Capital Management appointed industry figure Rose Lee as a managing director and head of investment solutions, as well as a member of the management committee. Lee leads the strategic development and management of investment and securities products as well as client solutions for the Rockefeller Global Family Office. 

Janus Henderson appointed Aaron Kilberg as head of North America institutional sales, and Patrick Caragher as institutional sales director. Based in New York, Kilberg is responsible for leading the North America sales team and covering the East region, with a focus on corporate plans and public pensions. 

Kilberg joined from abrdn, where he was a senior business development director, responsible for developing new business relationships and solutions with institutional clients. Prior to that, he worked in various capacities at UBS Global Asset Management and Aviva Investors. Caragher, who is based in Chicago, is responsible for covering corporate and public pensions in the Midwest. Caragher was most recently a senior director in Aegon Asset Management’s US institutional team.

Dechert, the global law firm, appointed former SEC senior figure David Bartels as a partner in its financial services group, based in the Washington, DC office. At the Securities and Exchange Commission, Bartels was deputy chief counsel of the division of investment management.  

Global business advisory firm EisnerAmper appointed Ben Richmond as a partner in its Personal Wealth Advisors Group. Richmond has 15 years of experience in tax planning and compliance in various areas of domestic and international taxation. 

Argent Financial Group hired Annaliese Russell as internal auditor. Russell,who is based in the Ruston office, focuses on providing objective evaluations of financial and operational functions. She reports to Kimberly Breithaupt, chief audit executive. Before joining Argent, Russell served as a risk management intern for Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in Shreveport, Louisiana. 

Compliance Risk Concepts, a group providing financial services for senior compliance professionals and executives, appointed a former senior FINRA figure, Jonathan Telfair, as its associate director of broker-dealer registration.

Alex. Brown, a division of Raymond James, welcomed financial advisor Trevor Ronderos in Miami, Florida. Ronderos previously managed approximately $122 million in client assets at Goldman Sachs and provides global wealth management services to ultra-high net worth and HNW clients. He and client service associate Ana Sofia Garcia joined Alex. Brown’s Brickell Avenue branch, which is led by Eric Termini, regional executive for South Florida.

Cetera Financial Group, the US network of financial professionals, announced that a branch office that oversees $250 million had affiliated with the Cetera community. The practice, led by industry veteran Michael Bergin, joined from National Securities and is based in Eatontown, New Jersey. Bergin began his financial services career in 1985. 

AllianceBernstein named a chief financial officer while the head of the business’s private wealth business stepped down. Kate Burke, appointed CFO, stayed on as chief operating officer. She stepped down as head of Bernstein Private Wealth. Onur Erzan, AB's head of the global client group, who was appointed head of Bernstein Private Wealth, maintained his global client role. Burke succeeded interim CFO Bill Siemers, who returned to his prior role as corporate controller and chief accounting officer and remains on the firm's operating committee. Erzan has been with the firm as head of global client group since January 2021. Burke has remained in Nashville, and Erzan has stayed on in New York City.

Citi Private Bank promoted Chris Petro to the role of global market manager for the New York Metro Area. Petro reports to Halé Behzadi, head of North America for Citi Private Bank. He joined the US bank last year as a regional market manager Metro NY. Petro previously worked for more than 10 years at JP Morgan’s global investment opportunities group. Prior to JP Morgan, Petro worked in institutional sales at SG Cowen covering hedge funds and institutional asset managers.

Apollon Wealth Management, a US registered investment advisor, appointed Eric Sterner as its chief investment officer. He reports to founding partner and chief executive, Michael Dolberg. Sterner has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. Most recently he was vice president of PGIM’s Strategic Investment Research Group’s portfolio construction team.
