A roundup of moves in the global wealth management industry during April.
Noel Quinn said he was to retire as CEO of HSBC. Quinn has been
at the lender since 1987; he was the chief executive for an
interim period before being formally appointed to the role in
March 2020.
Harry Jack, head of pan European Equity Research at Schroders,
joined Cazenove Capital in London, reporting to Clare Anderson,
global head of Schroders family office service. Jack's career
spans 19 years in the European equities sector at Schroders.
Aviva Investors appointed Mathew Parker to join its UK Equity
team. Based in London, Parker reports to Trevor Green, head of UK
equities. He joined from Columbia Threadneedle.
Royal London Asset Management restructured its global equity
team, after the resignation of its head of equities Peter Rutter
and a number of the global equities team, who plan to set up
their own company. Chief investment officer Piers Hillier took on
responsibility for Royal London Asset Management’s global equity
capabilities.
Close Brothers Asset Management appointed Tom Squire as senior
investment director based in the firm’s London Mayfair office. He
joined from Investec Wealth & Investment.
Offshore law firm Harneys appointed partners Jessica Williams and
Ben Hobden as co-heads of the Cayman Islands Litigation,
Insolvency and Restructuring practice group. Williams, who joined
the firm in 2013, has been a partner in Harneys’ Cayman Islands
office since 2017. Hobden joined Harneys as a partner in
September 2023.
RBC Brewin Dolphin appointed Matt Baldwin, Joseph Smith, Shazna
Bishop and Simon Reed.
Annabel Bosman transitioned from her previous role as head of
relationship management to regional centre head for London and
the Southeast. Prior to joining RBC in July 2019, Bosman started
her career at Barclays; she has also worked at Citigroup,
Deutsche Bank and Julius Baer. Baldwin joined as a wealth manager
from Brown Shipley; Smith, formerly at Coutts, joined as a
financial planner; Bishop, who previously worked at Investec
Wealth & Investment, came on board as a financial planner; and
Simon Reed is an investment manager, formerly from London &
Capital.
PGIM expanded into the Middle East. It appointed Mohammed
Abdulmalek, a former senior figure at UBS Asset Management, JP
Morgan and Deutsche Bank Asset Management, who has worked in the
sector for more than three decades.
Jersey Finance appointed Chris Jenkins as its global head of
market development with immediate effect, after Allan Wood left.
In Jersey since 2015, Jenkins moved from Hong Kong SAR.
EFG Harris Allday appointed two client relationship officers,
Anne Brookes and Clive Batchelor, and portfolio managers, Gordon
Campbell and Peter Meckiff.
Swiss fintech, Leonteq appointed Hans Widler as CFO and a member
of the executive committee. He succeeded Antoine Boublil, who
left to pursue other opportunities. Widler, who joined Leonteq as
head financial accounting in 2013, had been the group’s head
financial management since 2015.
Law firm Farrer & Co made four promotions to partner:
-- William Charrington, dispute resolution;
-- Charmaine Pollock, employment;
-- Nicola Pomfret, private client; and
-- Laetitia Ransley, charity and community.
Graham Anderson, Blue Elliott, Hoi-Yee Roper (all covering
dispute resolution), and Carole Howe (private client) became
senior counsel.
Schroders appointed Alex Tedder as co-head of equities. Tedder
leads the equities business alongside Rory Bateman, while Mark
Lacey was appointed head of thematic equities and Simon Webber
was promoted to head of global equities. Tedder retains portfolio
management responsibilities. He has more than 25 years’
experience in the global stocks space.
Trieste, Italy-based Generali Group said Woody Bradford became
new CEO of its asset management arm. Group CEO Philippe Donnet
became chairman of the board of directors. Bradford
maintained his current role as CEO and chair of the board of
Conning Holdings. Generali Group CEO Donnet was appointed chair
of GIH. Carlo Trabattoni, CEO for asset and wealth management and
CEO of Generali Investments Holding, assumed new responsibilities
within the asset management area.
Outside the GIH perimeter, Banca Generali, led by the CEO Gian
Maria Mossa, focuses on providing financial advisory services and
wealth management solutions. David Cis, group chief operating
officer, who reports to general manager Marco Sesana, joined the
group management committee.
FE fundinfo appointed Joerg Grossmann as its new chief product
officer. Grossmann has worked at Allfunds, Credit Suisse, UBS and
the Boston Consulting Group.
Julius Baer appointed Thomas Blaser as head of the Berne branch
and the Mittelland market. Blaser succeeded Jean-Claude Mariéthod
in the role, who had developed and managed the location since
2017. Mariéthod took early retirement. Blaser, who has nearly
four decades of experience in the financial industry, joined from
UBS.
Deutsche Bank Private Bank named Alexandre Lotfi as head of
wealth management lending UK and Central Europe. Lotfi is a
managing director based in London, reporting to Adam Russ, global
head of wealth management and business lending. He replaced
Geneva-based Claude Casavant who retired. With more than 23
years of experience in risk management, Lotfi joined from the
Bank of Singapore, where he had been the global chief risk
officer and chief executive of the Bank of Singapore DIFC since
2016.
Fidante Partners appointed Robert Elfström as sales director,
public markets, Nordics and Benelux distribution in its Stockholm
office. Elfström joined from BMO Global Asset Management,
where he established the BMO brand in the Nordic
region.
Consulting at Davies, formerly known as Sionic, a firm
specialising in improving business, technology and people
performance across financial services, made three new additions
to its senior team. Peter Keaveney joined as a partner and head
of the North American asset and wealth management practice. Most
recently, Keaveney served as a managing director at BNY Mellon
within its asset servicing and digital business.
Roshni Patel, appointed as principal consultant at Consulting at
Davies, joined from Investment Software Group, where she was head
of programme – delivery and operations. Matt Lonsdale is a
director, bringing experience in financial services gained from
senior positions at the likes of TMI, Arc, Pershing and, most
recently, Iress.
Lombard Odier appointed former UBS senior figure Ali Janoudi as
head of the “new markets” region. Janoudi, who is based in
Geneva, became a limited partner, reporting to Frédéric Rochat,
managing partner and co-head of the private clients activity. He
took over from Arnaud Leclercq, partner, who took on a new role
focusing on key strategic clients. Janoudi previously worked at
UBS, where he led international strategic units over the last 13
years. He was also a member of the global wealth management
executive committee.
Lombard Odier Investment Managers also appointed Valentin
Petrescou and Didier Anthamatten to launch a global macro
absolute return strategy. The duo were joined by their former
team members, Jeremy Gatto, Philipp Mueller and Max Witschel, all
coming to LOIM from Credit Suisse.
Sarasin & Partners promoted Subitha Subramaniam to head of
investment strategy, formerly asset management team head. The
latter role was taken up by Sam Jeffries, partner and investment
manager with nearly 30 years’ experience in managing multi-asset
and equity portfolios for high net worth families.
Los Angeles-headquartered Payden & Rygel, a large privately-owned
global investment advisor, appointed Dennis Kwist as senior vice
president, business development, with responsibility for Northern
Europe. Kwist is a 15-year veteran of Wellington Management,
where he was MD, head of business development for Northern
Europe. He now operates from the firm’s London and Milan
offices.
Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M)
expanded its EMEA corporate finance practice. It named Manuel
Sammut as a managing director and head of business and
tech-enabled services within the practice. Prior to joining
A&M, Sammut served as a managing director with William Blair
and was a partner at KPMG.
JTC appointed Sean Walsh as head of private client services in
Guernsey. Walsh joined JTC as a director in 2022.
Vermeer Partners appointed Rob Hodgson as financial planning
director within Vermeer Financial Planning.
Investor services group IQ-EQ appointed Sridhar Nagarajan as
managing director, Singapore and regional CEO for Asia, Middle
East and Africa. He replaced Miichael Marquardt who was IQ-EQ’s
previous Asia regional CEO.
Law firm Russell-Cooke added Sarah Arnold as a partner in its
contentious trust and estates team based in its central London
office on Bedford Row. She joined from Pennington Manches
Cooper.
Multi-family office Stonehage Fleming appointed Carolyn Bell as
partner within Stonehage Fleming Investment Management (SFIM).
Bell, who has more than 15 years of industry experience, was
previously investment manager for the Aegon US Equity Pension
Fund at Aegon Asset Management.
Amundi named Marc Noel as chief compliance officer. He reports to
Nicolas Calcoen, deputy CEO at Amundi and to Martine Boutinet,
chief compliance officer at Crédit Agricole. Noel has worked at
Amundi since 2022.
Royal London Asset Management named Ed Venner as chief client
officer. Venner joined from Franklin Templeton, where he was
recently global distribution chief operating officer and chair of
the board of Martin Currie.
Royal Bank of Canada appointed an interim chief financial
officer, Katherine Gibson.
Charles Russell Speechlys appointed Kim Lalli and Rafe Courage as
partners in the real estate group. The firm also welcomed
Amira Shaker-Bortman as a partner within its private client team.
Shaker-Bortman joined from McDermott Will & Emery.
Titanbay, a European private markets investment platform for
private banks, wealth managers and investment advisors, appointed
Ossama Soliman as chief executive officer. Soliman took over
Titanbay’s leadership from Thomas Eskebaek, the firm’s co-founder
and outgoing CEO, who stepped back from day-to-day leadership to
join Titanbay’s board of directors. Soliman was most recently
Titanbay’s chief operating officer.
Schroders Wealth Management named Clare Anderson as its global head of Schroders’ family office service. Lyn Tomlinson was appointed as head of impact solutions.
Johnston Carmichael Wealth appointed Lauren Whitters and Duncan
Fernie to join the wealth team in Dundee.
GTN, a fintech focused on trading and investing, appointed former
Saxo Bank senior figure Damian Bunce as its Middle East CEO.
Bunce also worked for IBM, Goldman Sachs and Barclays. At
Denmark-headquartered Saxo Bank, he was chief commercial
officer.
Close Brothers Asset Management appointed Justin Yeldham as
senior investment director. Yeldham, who has almost 30 years’
experience in the investment industry, started his career at Carr
Sheppards in 1994 working through its transition to Investec
Wealth and Investment and most recently Rathbones.
C Hoare & Co appointed Marion King as an independent
non-executive director. She moved away from full-time executive
work in 2022, after a 30-year career in financial services.
Swiss firm Lindemann Law appointed Dr Emanuel Tschannen, attorney
at law, as a partner. Tschannen has a track record as a business
lawyer and litigator.
Close Brothers Asset Management appointed Francesca Bartholdi as
investment manager, based in the firm’s London Mayfair office.
Prior to joining CBAM, Bartholdi spent nine years at Investec
Wealth & Investment.
Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management appointed Alex Barry as the
head of distribution, UK and Ireland. Previously, Barry was head
of UK wholesale at Franklin Templeton.
Lubbock Fine, chartered accountants and business advisors,
promoted private client tax specialist David Portman to
partner.
Julius Baer recruited four relationship managers in the
Aargau/Solothurn market and the foundations team. Claudia Hayek,
who joined Julius Baer from Credit Suisse at the beginning of
2024, became head of the relationship manager team
Aargau/Solothurn.
Stefan Krunic started as a relationship manager in the
Aargau/Solothurn team in February 2024. He has worked in the
financial industry for over 10 years, the last six of which were
as a private client relationship manager at Credit Suisse
Switzerland. Patrik FlĂĽck joined the team in April from Credit
Suisse. He has more than 30 years of experience in the financial
sector.
Thomas Reutlinger added to the firm’s foundations team in
Switzerland in March. He started his career 30 years ago as a
relationship manager for private clients at ZĂĽrcher
Kantonalbank.
BNP Paribas Asset Management appointed Alaa Bushehri as head of
emerging markets debt. Based in London, Bushehri reports to
Olivier de Larouzière, chief investment officer (CIO) of fixed
income.
Amundi appointed Barry Glavin as head of equity investment
platform. Before joining Amundi, Glavin had been chief investment
officer of State Street Global Advisors’ fundamental value
equities team since 2013.
Brown Advisory appointed Andy Nickson as UK intermediary sales
director. He previously worked at Fidelity International.
International law firm BCLP appointed Partner Kyle O’Sullivan to
join its global tax advice and controversy team in London.
O’Sullivan joined from Slaughter and May, where he was an
associate.
Rhodes Wealth Management, based in Derby, in the UK Midlands,
appointed Hayley Burton as managing director. Previously, Burton
was MD of Kingswood Group and divisional manager at Santander
Wealth Management.
Stonehage Fleming appointed Chris Cameron as trustee director in
the Jersey family office division. Cameron, who has 25 years'
experience in trust and company administration, joined from
Crestbridge Family Office Services where he was a client services
director.
Asia-Pacific
Bank of Singapore said that Rickie Chan, its head of private
banking for Greater China, took on the additional role of CEO of
its Hong Kong branch. He took over the helm from Cindy Wong, who
continued as an advisor until 31 May.
Julius Baer’s Thailand joint venture business appointed a new chief executive, Peerapoing Jirasevijinda. He succeeded Lalitphat Toranavikrai, who stayed on the JV’s board of directors.
Toranavikrai, who has been involved with SCB-Julius Baer Securities Co, as the JV is called, since 2008, has held senior positions in wealth management. Her career prior to SCB includes time spent at RBS Coutts in Singapore, and as deputy head of corporate and investment banking at BNP Paribas Thailand. Jirasevijinda brought more than 27 years of financial industry experience to the CEO role.
T Rowe Price, a global asset manager, appointed Tim Chamberlain as Asia-Pacific (APAC) regional chief operating officer. Before this, Chamberlain served as general manager for T Rowe Price’s chief data office, a position that he has held since joining the firm in April 2023.
Investor services group IQ-EQ appointed Sridhar Nagarajan as managing director, Singapore and regional CEO for Asia, Middle East and Africa. He replaced Miichael Marquardt who was IQ-EQ’s previous Asia regional CEO. Nagarajan, who bought more than three decades of industry experience to the job, has been part of IQ-EQ’s senior leadership team since 2019. He led its Africa, India and Middle-East business, serving as regional managing director.
JP Morgan Private Bank appointed Florence Kui as the head of the China market in Hong Kong. Based in Hong Kong, Kui reports to Harshika Patel, CEO of the Asia Private Bank and Hong Kong CEO of JP Morgan. Kui succeeded Grace Lin, who retired after a career spanning several decades, eight years of which were with the Asia Private Bank. She had almost three decades of experience in wealth management and financial services.
Julius Baer appointed Benjamin Sim as group head for Greater China Singapore. Sim’s appointment left his existing role – deputy branch manager for Singapore – unaffected. Andreas Zingg, Asia chief operating officer, took over as COO for Singapore alongside his existing responsibilities. Sim, based in Singapore, reports to Yee Kim Tan, market head for Greater China Singapore.
BNP Paribas appointed one of its senior figures, Aymar de Liedekerke Beaufort, in the newly-appointed role of Asia-Pacific global banking. De Liedekerke Beaufort – based in Hong Kong – reports to Yannick Jung, head of global banking, and Paul Yang, CEO Asia-Pacific. De Liedekerke Beaufort has more than 30 years’ experience of banking in Europe and Asia at BNP Paribas..
Natixis Investment Managers appointed Mark Kwek as head of wholesale for Southeast Asia. Kwek, who is based in Singapore, reports to Dora Seow, chief executive for NIM in the city-state. Prior to this, Kwek worked at JP Morgan Asset Management as an executive director on the private wealth solutions team.
VP Bank reshuffled the leadership of its wealth business in Hong Kong. It appointed Will Wang as head of Hong Kong for VP Wealth Management (Hong Kong) Ltd and chief representative of VP Bank AG Hong Kong Representative Office. Based in Hong Kong, Wang stepped down from his role as alternative solutions head, but kept his responsibilities as the head of strategic partnerships for Asia. Reto Marx returned to Singapore to take up the job of chief risk officer for Asia and head of product and solutions for Asia (ad interim). He relinquished his role as head of Hong Kong for VP Wealth Management (Hong Kong) Ltd.
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation appointed Katsufumi Uchida as its new managing executive officer, and co-head for Asia-Pacific. Uchida succeeded Yuichi Nishimura and joined Rajeev Kannan as managing executive officer and co-head for APAC.
In his capacity as a managing executive officer of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Uchida most recently served as head of Asia business development division and deputy head of APAC division.
Bank of Singapore appointed former senior LGT figure Jibu George
as its compliance head in the DIFC branch, Dubai. In his previous
job, George was chief risk and compliance officer for the Middle
East business of LGT Private Bank, serving in that post from
2017.
North America
JP Morgan Private Bank has a new leader for its business in the
South: Andrew Brock. Brock replaced the former
postholder Pete Chilian who left in February. Brock
reports to Elaine Agather, Central Region head of the private
bank.
With more than 20 years of financial services experience, Brock previously served as the head of Central Texas, leading the private bank offices in Austin and San Antonio. He joined the US bank in 2012.
Sunflower Bank appointed John Sawyer as chief investment officer and director of wealth management and private banking. Sawyer has more than 30 years’ investment experience leading trust, investment management, brokerage and RIA units at regional and community banks. Based in Denver, Sawyer spent most of his career in various Texas markets.
Former Merrill Lynch advisor Sloane Fox, who had previously managed about $125 million for the firm, joined the independent advisor channel. Fox, the founder of Sloane Financial Planning in Tampa, Florida, was joined by registered client service associate Tracie Bailey. Fox has more than 25 years’ financial sector experience.
The firm also brought in financial advisors Jefferson Hankins and Kurt Boggs to its independent advisor channel. The advisors built Hankins & Boggs Group, a branch of Reynolds Wealth Management, in Warsaw, Indiana. Arriving from PNC Investments, they previously managed about $170 million in client assets.
Raymond James brought in financial advisor Taimur Baig to its employee advisor channel in San Diego, California. Baig was formerly at Morgan Stanley, where he managed about $130 million in client assets. He leads Be Wealth Efficient of Raymond James. Baig began his financial services career in 2009 as an advisor at Merrill Lynch.
The firm welcomed financial advisor Thera Elliott to the firm’s independent advisor channel. Elliott was previously at Wells Fargo, where she managed about $105 million in client assets. Operating as Elliott Wealth Strategies in Boca Raton, Florida, she was joined by office manager and sales assistant Joy Lynn McGarity.
Raymond James welcomed financial advisor Craig H Barker to its employee advisor channel in Roseville, California led by branch manager Craig Weis. He came from Stifel, where he managed about $165 million in client assets and was joined by senior client service associate Sharon A Bracken-Barker.
The firm brought a $1.1 billion team into its employee advisor channel. Comprising three financial advisors and seven branch professionals, the team operates as Pahnke Wealth Management Group of Raymond James and is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. The advisors are Glenn Pahnke, Ted Churchill and Austin Pahnke. Before this, the team was at RBC Wealth Management.
TIFIN, an AI and innovation platform for the wealth sector, appointed Jeannette Kuda as chief operating officer. Kuda joined from LPL Financial where she served as senior vice president and COO of wealth management solutions. Kuda also spent nearly a decade at TIAA, where she spearheaded initiatives across the trust company and private asset management divisions.
TIFIN also appointed former LPL Financial senior figure Rob Pettman as its chief revenue officer and president. He reports directly to TIFIN's founder and CEO, Dr Vinay Nair. At LPL, Pettman was executive vice president of wealth management solutions and ran LPL’s wealth management platform. He worked at the firm for 19 years.
SimCorp appointed former senior BlackRock figure Allen Zimmerman as managing director, head of Americas. At BlackRock, Zimmerman served as an MD. He worked in the financial services sector for 18 years, with stints at Barclays and Citigroup.
US-based Concurrent, a multi-custodial, hybrid RIA, expanded its leadership team: Bo Ellison, chief financial officer; Joe Mooney, managing director, advisor engagement and enterprise development; Kerry McDermott, VP, program development, strategy and growth; and Matthew Unger, VP, head of centralized wealth advisory services.
Chase R Crump, a financial industry professional and ex-professional baseball player, was named a Registered Player Financial Advisor, highlighting the crossover of sports and wealth management. Crump is a partner and financial guide at WFA – Plan | Invest | Inspire, aka WFA.
Advisor360°, which provides wealth management software, appointed
former Mass Mutual US head, Mike Fanning, as CEO. He succeeded
Richard Napolitano, who retired in May. Fanning has held
numerous leadership positions driving technology strategy and
enterprise-wide innovation throughout his career, which spans
more than three decades in wealth management. He was at
MassMutual for 17 years, most recently leading its domestic
insurance business.
Cresset, the US wealth manager, brought in two advisory teams
into its San Francisco office, collectively in charge of about $5
billion of client money. The teams previously worked at JP Morgan
Wealth Management, and prior to that First Republic Bank (the
latter lender was bought by JP Morgan last spring as part of a
rescue package at the behest of the US government).
The two teams comprise three lead advisors and 12 supporting financial professionals. The team members are Dagny Maidman (who leads it); Timothy Cahyadi; Steve Ching; Christopher Fisher; Michelle Gorrell; Patrick Hejlik; Andrew Huang; Beatrice Maidman; Gia Llorin Rojas; Alana Yokoyama; Chris Chase; Erik Ralston; Lizzy Labeeuw-Anderson; Ryan Ortiz; and Timur Zeinapur.
Alpha Capital Family Offices, based in Denver, recruited former Northern Trust figure Tom Riley to join and lead portfolio management at the firm. Working for more than two decades in wealth and investment management, Riley was in charge of more than $500 million of assets for ultra-high net worth investors at Northern Trust.
Polar Capital appointed Morgan Lee to join its business development team, covering the west coast of America, specifically west of the Rockies. Lee is based in California and reports to Alastair Barrie, managing director for North America. With more than 25 years of institutional investment experience, most recently Lee was vice president and regional director for Dimensional Fund Advisors.
F2 Strategy, the wealth management technology services company that acquired Oakbrook Solutions last year, hired Jay Halbert for the newly-created chief financial officer slot.
Halbert has more than 20 years’ experience in the sector including serving as executive vice president at media group Alkemy X. Before the Alkemy X role, he was senior vice president at Northeast Building Products, president and owner of MedX Operating Company, and chief financial officer at Comcast Spectacor.
Foundation Source appointed Lou D’Addario as chief revenue officer and Warren Bailey as chief information security officer. D’Addario is a fintech pioneer with 30 years’ experience in the space. Most recently, he served as managing director and head of sales for the Americas at Charles River Development, a State Street company. D’Addario previously served in leadership roles at Envestnet and FolioDynamix. Bailey has more than 25 years’ experience in technology and brings extensive software development and process design expertise to Foundation Source.
Modern Wealth Management, a national RIA launched in April 2023, appointed Goldman Sachs and United Capital executive Jason Del Col as head of advisory services. Del Col has worked in wealth management for 25 years.
Abacus Group, a US managed services provider to alternative investment firms, appointed Anthony J D’Ambrosi as its new CEO. D’Ambrosi replaced Chris Grandi, who took up the chairperson role.
Mike McNamara, former chief executive of law firm Dentons US, became CEO of Baretz+Brunelle, a growth advisory firm to businesses in the legal industry. He worked at Dentons in executive leadership for more than a decade; McNamara was a partner there for over 20 years.
Aureus Asset Management appointed Thad Davis as chief executive and president. Karen Firestone, the firm’s co-founder who was previously chair and CEO, became executive chair. Davis joined Aureus in 2005 when the firm was founded, holding the post of co-portfolio manager of its core equity strategy. Prior to joining Aureus, Davis worked at Bear Stearns Asset Management.
International law firm Proskauer appointed Christiana Lazo as a partner in its private client services department. Previously, Lazo was at Kirkland & Ellis.
Apex Fintech Solutions appointed a prominent figure in the US wealth sector, Charles “Chip” Roame, to join its board of directors. In his business career, Roame primarily served in advisory roles guiding more than 600 wealth and investment management firms, CEOs, senior executives, and boards of directors.
RIA Savvy Advisors appointed David Gottlieb as a wealth manager. Gottleib, who is based in West Orange, New Jersey, has 20 years of industry experience, Previously at Prosperity (formerly EisnerAmper Wealth Management), Gottlieb also worked at Ameriprise Financial, Morgan Stanley and Fortress Investment Group.
bfinance, an independent investment consulting firm, appointed Jamie Downing as global head of client consulting. The previous incumbent Mal Hunt who joined the firm in 2017, left in April. Downing has 25 years’ experience in asset management and pension consulting including 11 years at American Century Investments.
Golden State Wealth Management, an RIA, added Kathleen Stephens, who operates under the organization, Solaris Wealth Management, located in Poway, California.
Private markets investment management firm Hamilton Lane unveiled senior promotions. It also appointed Kate Reilly as chief operating officer for client solutions operations – a newly-formed role.
