Who’s Moving Where In Wealth Management? – Charles Russell Speechlys, State Street, Others

The latest moves, appointments and personnel changes among wealth management and related organisations in the UK, the rest of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and select international locations.

Charles Russell Speechlys
International law firm Charles Russell Speechlys has appointed Charlotte Hill as partner in the firm’s financial services regulatory team in London.

Hill is joining from Taylor Wessing, where she has been partner and head of the financial services regulation and fintech group, the firm said in a statement. During that time, she was one of the founding partners of the Dublin office, where she built and managed a team of 10. Prior to this, Hill was a partner at three other major law firms; she also led the legal department at Threadneedle Investment, now Columbia Threadneedle, as general counsel.

Hill, who is joining the firm at a time when financial services regulation is becoming increasing complex, has experience in providing international regulatory advice on both fintech and other financial services regulation matters. Her client base is broad, ranging from international conglomerates to specialist boutiques; it includes fintech and crypto firms, online retail marketplaces, investment platforms, investment managers, brokers, banks and more.

Recent high-profile and complex matters that Hill has advised on include: advising a cryptocurrency derivatives exchange on matters relating to Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) authorisation and registration; advising a luxury fashion digital marketplace on whether it could rely on the Commercial Agent Exclusion under FCA rules; and advising the London branch of a US financial services company on a number of MiFID requirements.

“As a firm that is keenly focused on private capital, it is critical that we provide our clients with top quality advice on navigating the evolving laws and regulations in financial services – a sector that is becoming ever more complex and affecting an increasingly wide range of clients,” David Collins, partner and head of the firm's business advisory and transaction services division, said.

The firm has made a number of hires recently. See more commentary here.

Charles Russell Speechlys is an international law firm with a focus on private capital, at the intersection of personal, family, business, and corporates, with locations across the UK, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
