Aviva Re-Brands Morley in Asset Management Reorganisation

International insurer Aviva is to re-brand Morley Fund Management, its UK-based asset management business, as Aviva Investors in a global streamlining of its asset management businesses. Morley manages both institutional and retail funds and also acts as investment manager for a range of retail investment funds, marketed in the UK under the Norwich Union brand and in Europe under the Morley name. The restructure will also take in nine other businesses throughout Europe, North America and Australia, including Aviva Capital Management in the US and Hibernian Investment Managers in Ireland. The Luxembourg-domiciled Aviva Morley SICAV fund will become the Aviva Investors SICAV fund on 1 April. It will operate as the primary vehicle for Aviva Investors’ global fund distribution and allow all businesses within Aviva Investors to sell products to customers worldwide. Andrew Moss, Aviva group chief executive, described Aviva Investors as "the third pillar" of the insurer’s business model alongside long-term savings and general insurance. It will operate as a single brand in 15 countries and starts with £316 billion ($630 billion) in funds under management. “We have a very diverse client base which we want to develop even further. Our decision to specialise and focus our investment teams satisfies the requirements of those clients who want to build portfolios themselves,” said Mr Moss. Under Alain Dromer, the chief executive appointed to run Aviva Investors last year, the division will aim to increase asset management earnings for the group, Moss added. Aviva has appointed a six-strong team to lead the business, which has an initial £316 billion of funds under management. All start work on 1 March and the new unit will be formally launched in September this year. Craig Bingham, chief executive of Portfolio Partners, becomes chief executive officer, Aviva Investors Asia Pacific. Greg Boal, president of Aviva Capital Management, becomes chief executive officer of Aviva Investors North America. Siobhan Boylan, chief financial officer of Morley, becomes global chief financial officer of Aviva Investors. Chris Oglethorpe, managing director of human resources and communication at Morley, becomes global chief operating officer of Aviva Investors. Ian Womack, managing director of property at Morley, becomes managing director Aviva Investors Global Property. Nick Alford, chief operating officer of Morley, is to leave the fund management group while Richard Field, director of investments at Norwich Union Life, has been promoted director of Global Investment Solutions. He will take up the role later this year.
