Henderson Global Investors has hired Glen Finegan to the newly created title of head of emerging market equities and he joins the team on 5 January next year. Finegan, who reports to Graham Kitchen, head of equities, most recently was a senior portfolio manager at First State Stewart, covering GEM all-cap strategies.

The asset manager said that “as part of the wider review of the emerging markets business” Chris Palmer will leave Henderson. Palmer, who during the Gartmore acquisition by Henderson in 2011, served as director of emerging market equities.

Finegan’s role means he is responsible for managing the £1 billion ($1.73 billion) global emerging markets’ equities’ franchise based in the UK.

Before joining First State Stewart in 2001 he was a geophysicist within the oil and gas industry.
