Citi Takes Mobile Banking One Step Further With App For Apple's Wristwatch

The mobile revolution in tech has taken a new twist in the banking world courtesy of Citigroup.

So now you can wear your bank with pride.

As apps on mobile devices proliferate in the world of banking it was somewhat inevitable perhaps that US-listed Citigroup should be among the first to use the new Apple Watch™ when the gizmo hits the market on 24 April this year.

The Citi Mobile® Lite app is designed so that Citi US debit and credit card customers can see account balances and recent transactions and get real-time notifications of credit card transactions at a glance.

The bank said direct, password-free access to account information on the Apple Watch and iPhone is enabled by Citi Mobile® Snapshot, which has an opt-in feature that Citi introduced last year to avoid users having to log in every time they want to view their accounts.

As previously reported by this publication, Citi has already rolled out its In View platform for clients of its private banking services. The bank seems determined to make tech wizardry a big part of its appeal.

Your correspondent occasionally hears of how the younger generation is less interested in wearing wristwatches than the older cohort seems to be, but the ability to get all this data so handily might be the boost that the watch industry is looking for. We saw how the Swiss watch industry was rejuvenated by the advent of the Swatch brand. Maybe what it needs is a bit of Silicon Valley magic.
