Commerzbank, Dresdner Bank Unveil New Unified Brand For German Branch Network

Germany’s Commerzbank and Dresdner Bank are to bring their combined network of over 1,200 German branches under one logo as the banks continue to integrate following the former’s acquisition of the latter in January 2009.

The new, yellow logo draws on elements of those of both banks, with the intention that it will be instantly familiar to both clients and staff. The Fürstenhof, Dresdner’s Frankfurt branch, will be among the first to feature the new logo, while the conversion of the rest of the branch network to the common brand is expected to be completed by the end of August.

As part of the integration clients will be able to access services in all branches, regardless of whether they are a Commerzbank or Dresdner Bank customer.

"From now on we are sailing under one flag: all the customers of Dresdner Bank and Commerzbank have a common bank," said Martin Blessing, chief executive of Commerzbank,  in a statement.

The banks also announced that Werner Braun and Bernhard Zinn have been respectively appointed as head of private client business and wealth management for the Frankfurt region.

Commerzbank acquired Dresdner Bank from the insurer Allianz for €4.7 billion ($5.8 billion) in a deal which included a number of the latter’s private banking subsidiaries, including UK-based Kleinwort Benson. Commerzbank has since sold Kleinwort Benson, along with a number of other private banking businesses, as it was forced to divest non-core assets as part of EU conditions for receiving state aid.
