ETF Securities Adds To Forex Trading Choices For Investors

ETF Securities, which provides a variety of exchange traded fund vehicles, is to list 10 new Euro-based currency ETCs on the Deutsche Börse in the coming weeks, underscoring how private investor access to currency market trading is widening.
The firm already has more than 114 Commodity ETCs and 11 ETFs listed on Germany’s Xetra market, totalling approximately $1.5 billion of local investment and close to $200 million weekly trading volume on Xetra.
The product launch highlights how the business of foreign exchange trading, once the preserve of professional traders at institutions such as banks, is gaining ground among private investors. Institutions such as Saxo Bank, the Danish firm, and Barclays Stockbrokers, both provide clients access for forex dealing.
The increased interest in forex highlights how investors are seeking alternative sources of return, particularly at a time when yields on cash and fixed income products are wafer-thin.
The 10 new Currency ETCs will track Morgan Stanley Foreign Exchange Indices and are designed to replicate a fully collateralised long or short investment in euros versus the Swiss franc, sterling, Japanese yen, Norwegian kronor or Swedish kronor, and provide exposure to local interest rates.
The 10 new Currency ETCs will complement the existing platform of 18 Currency ETCs listed on the London Stock Exchange last November providing long or short passive exposure to G10 currencies versus the dollar (Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, Swiss franc, euro, sterling, yen, Norwegian kronor, New Zealand dollar and Swedish kronor).
