Hedge funds had a flat July, slipping on average 0.07 per cent, according to the Barclay Hedge Fund Index. This following a loosing run starting in May when hedge funds lost 1.82 per cent and June when the average fell by 0.30 per cent. Nine out of 18 hedge fund indexes fell in July, with funds that focus on technology declining the most, according to initial indications from Iowa-based Barclay Trading Group. Barclay’s Technology Index lost 1.39 per cent and its global macro index fell 1.36 per cent in the month. Predictably, short equity strategies fared well, gaining on average 2.84 per cent.
