WH Ireland, the London-based stockbroker, achieved a pre-tax profit rise of 235 per cent year-on-year to £2.34 million ($4.39 million) in the first six months of 2006. Revenue was up 45 per cent to £15.9 million. “The current levels of activity in the division are good and we continue to expect another strong performance from this division in the second half,” said chairman David Trippier. WH Ireland has been expanding its private client business, opening new offices in Leicester, Stockport and its first Scottish office in Kilmarnock in 2005. The firm also opened an office in Leeds earlier this year, following the acquisition of TD Waterhouse’s team in the city. Last year WH Ireland also bought a 51 per cent interest in Australian-based stockbroker DJ Carmichael.
