HSBC Private Bank Creates New Southeast Asia Leadership Role

The lender has appointed a global private banking head for Southeast Asia.

HSBC Private Bank has appointed Sandeep Sharma as head of global private banking, Southeast Asia, moving from the co-head role in that position. Sharma's post is newly created. Previously, Sharma shared responsibilities with former co-head Rob Ioannou, who has left the bank to pursue other opportunities, a spokesperson told this publication when asked about the matter.

Based in Singapore, Sharma will report to HSBC Singapore’s chief executive, Guy Harvey-Samuel, and to the regional head of global private banking, Asia-Pacific, Bernard Rennell, the bank said today in a statement.

“As the hub for financial flows in Southeast Asia, Singapore is a priority market for HSBC. With Sandeep’s track record, I am very confident that we are able to further grow our private banking business. I am also personally delighted that we are able to develop local Singapore talent within HSBC,” Harvey-Samuel said.

Sharma held his previous role of co-head of global private banking, Southeast Asia, since his appointment in 2014.

Last week, HSBC Private Bank appointed Fan Cheuk Wan as managing director, head of investment strategy and Lionel Kwok as managing director, head of sales management for Asia-Pacific.
