Who's Moving Where In Wealth Management - Two Magnolias, BlueBay, Others

The latest wealth management moves and appointments in the UK, rest of Europe and select international locations.

Two Magnolias
Venture capital investor newcomer Two Magnolias has appointed Peter Mather as chair of its advisory board.

Mather joins the UK-focused firm whose £50 million “Fund 1” is centred on sustainability and human health investments..

Following a 40-year career at BP, he stepped down this year as head of country, UK, and regional president for Europe. His tenure included the bid to transform BP into an "integrated" energy company based on renewable energy, and low carbon infrastructure and IP.

At Two Magnolias, Mather will offer senior counsel to the deal committee and the fund’s portfolio of UK scale-ups which aim to provide solutions to human and environmental sustainability issues.

BlueBay Asset Management
BlueBay Asset Management, RBC Global Asset Management’s specialist fixed income manager, has appointed two new hires for its special situations capabilities. The hires are James Rous, as an institutional portfolio manager and Giovanni Galvani, as an analyst.

Based in London, both will report to Adam Phillips, who joined the firm in October last year as head of developed harkets within its global leveraged finance team. 

Rous was previously head of marketing and investor relations at Caius Capital for four years. Prior to this, he served in senior roles at Fortress Investment Group, Thames River Capital, and Punter Southall Group. James, who is also a veteran of the British Army, attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. 

Giovanni, was a distressed debt and special situations analyst at SC Lowy. Before this, he also worked at Fidelity and Goldman Sachs. Giovanni has a master of science in finance from Bocconi University in Milan.

Muzinich & Co
Muzinich & Co, the New York-based investment firm overseeing $42.8 billion of assets at the end of October, has named former AXA figure Andrew Douglas as head of institutional sales, UK and Ireland.

He previously worked at AXA Investment Management where he was a director in its institutional business. He has also worked at BMO Global Asset Management and Nordea Investment Management.

Financial Conduct Authority
The Financial Conduct Authority has named Stephen Braviner-Roman as general counsel and as a member of its executive committee after an open competition. He is due to join the UK regulator in February 2022. It also announced that Megan Butler is stepping down as executive director of transformation in the spring of next year.

Butler joined the watchdog from the Bank of England in 2016 as executive director of supervision-investment, wholesale and specialist. Emily Shepperd will lead the FCA’s transformation programme, alongside her role as executive director of authorisations.

Braviner-Roman will join the FCA from the Government Legal Department (GLD), where he is director general of litigation, justice and security. In this role he will oversee legal advice given to the Home Office, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice and Department for Culture, Media and Sport. He was previously responsible for the GLD's advice on the UK’s departure from the European Union.
