Who's Moving Where In Wealth Management? – Amati, Abrdn, Tilney Smith & Williamson

The latest moves and appointments in wealth management in the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East and select international locations.

Amati Global Investors
Boutique fund manager Amati has appointed Mikhail Zverev (pictured) as fund manager to develop a new global equities strategy.

Zverev, whose career in global equities spans more than 20 years, is joining from Aviva Investors. He previously worked alongside Amati founder and chief executive officer Dr Paul Jourdan at First State Investments (FSI) between 2002 and 2007.

He started his career in finance in 1998 with boutique investment bank Trigon Capital, helping to raise growth capital for Eastern European technology companies. Following a spell with Citigroup as an M&A analyst, he joined FSI as a senior equity analyst, working alongside Jourdan on the FSI British Smaller Companies Fund and FSI AIM VCT.

Zverev moved to Standard Life Investments as a global equities portfolio manager in 2007, becoming head of global equities in 2012. He made the switch to Aviva as head of global equities in 2018, relaunching the firm’s Global Equity Unconstrained strategy a year later and managing it for eight years; it outperformed the strategy’s benchmark and global sector peer group, and delivered top quartile performance.

“Mikhail brings a considerable wealth of experience in managing global equity funds, a proven track record, and tremendous insight into the ways in which the incredible rate of innovation in today's industrial landscape creates opportunities for investors,” Dr Paul Jourdan, Amati chief executive officer, said.

Amati will seek regulatory approval for the new strategy and confirm further details in due course.

Abrdn
Abrdn has appointed Sarah Deaves as head of financial planning for its personal wealth business.

Deaves, who will report directly to Caroline Connellan, chief executive officer of personal wealth, will be responsible for supporting the firm's policy of helping clients to have financially secure futures in a way that works for them.

She will work with Paul Titterton, who recently joined the business as head of digital solutions, to explore how digitalisation can enhance the firm’s financial planning offering.

Deaves has many years of experience in wealth management, joining from Schroders personal wealth, where she was managing director, client relationships and wealth advice. Previously she was UK wealth director at Lloyds Banking Group and a former CEO of Coutts & Co.

“As a customer champion with a great track record of leadership of client-facing teams and innovation in client experience, Sarah is a great addition to our team,” Caroline Connellan, CEO, Personal Wealth at abrdn, said.

Tilney Smith & Williamson
Tilney Smith & Williamson has appointed experienced wealth management professional Richard Stanwell as investment director.

Stanwell, who brings 25 years of financial service experience, will help drive growth at the firm’s London investment management team.

He is joining from EFG Private Bank where he was senior director from 2018 working with a range of clients including trusts, foundations, HNW/UHNW individuals and family offices. Prior to that he served in senior roles at Kleinwort Benson, where he was head of UK teams, and at Barclays Wealth.

He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the AFPC (Advanced Financial Planning Certificate) qualification.

“This is a significant appointment for us and I know that Richard will play an important role in helping to bring continued growth to our wealth management business. Richard has operated at a senior level at a number of leading financial service firms and our clients will benefit from his extensive experience and expertise,” Chris Kenny, managing director at Tilney Smith & Williamson, said.

“I have long been impressed by the firm’s breadth of services, including investment management, financial planning and tax, as well as its investment propositions, incorporating bespoke, managed portfolio service, AIM and Bestinvest. It’s great to be joining a firm that has the ability to look after clients nationally and internationally, and a strong investment track record which continues to serve clients very well,” Stanwell said.
