Banco Santander appointed a new CEO for Spain, Ángel Rivera. Rivera is head of retail and commercial banking at Santander Spain. He took the reins from António Simões, who was both regional head of Europe and CEO of Santander Spain. 

Simões continued as regional head for Europe as a member of the group’s management committee, reporting to the group CEO and overseeing the businesses in the region, with reporting lines from the country heads of Spain, the UK, Poland and Portugal. 

In his new role, Rivera continued to report to Simoes. Rivera also works with Cristina Ruiz, a member of the board of Santander Spain since April 2021. Ruiz extended her responsibilities as head of the individuals business, which includes, among others, retail products, CRM, data and customer experience. 

Rivera’s career spans more than 30 years in the financial industry. He joined Santander in April 2013 as Spain’s head of distribution in the retail network and subsequently led the group’s retail banking division from 2015 to 2017. 

Banco Santander approved the appointment of Mahesh Aditya as new group chief revenue officer. He joined Santander in March 2017 as chief operating officer for Santander Holdings USA, before becoming CRO in 2018, then CEO of Santander Consumer USA in 2019. 

Asset manager Carmignac appointed Mathias Santos Silva as a technology, media and telecom analyst. Based in London, he joined Carmignac from Boden Capital where he was a senior analyst covering the TMT sector.

Titan Wealth Holdings, a fund manager, wealth and asset management business, made two senior appointments to its sales team: Mark Livesey as head of sales and Nick Hockney as senior sales consultant.


Saxo Bank appointed Mads Dorf Petersen as chief financial officer. He had held the position since October, on an interim basis, after Mette Ingeman Pedersen left Saxo. Prior to that, Dorf Petersen was head of commercial finance at Saxo. He joined the bank in 2009 and has held various leadership positions within finance including head of business planning and analysis and deputy head of group finance.

London law firm, Druces promoted Jack Dervyn to partner in its corporate team. Dervyn joined Druces in 2019 and established himself within the capital markets arena, often acting as lead advisor to some of Druces’ key clients across the Main Market, AIM and the Aquis Stock Exchange.

Crédit Agricole CIB, the French group, appointed three senior regional officers for Asia-Pacific, the Americas and the Middle East and Africa. Jean-François Deroche was named SRO for the Asia-Pacific region, based in Hong Kong. He replaced Michel Roy, who retired. Stéphane Ducroizet took on the Americas post, and he is based in New York. He replaced Marc-André Poirier, who becames chief executive of Crédit Agricole Indosuez Switzerland. Hatem Masmoudi was appointed SRO for the Middle East and Africa, based in Dubai. The officers report to Xavier Musca, CEO of Crédit Agricole CIB.

Brooks Macdonald appointed Joe Capaldi as investment director within its alternative investment management portfolio service. Capaldi was formerly at CS Investment Managers, where he was an investment director and lead manager of its AIM Inheritance Tax service.

Law firm Appleby hired two lawyers in its non-contentious Jersey trust and private client area. They included counsel Nichola Aldridge and former partner advocate Giles Corbin who joined as a consultant, bringing 24 years of local experience to the Appleby offering. Both are Jersey advocates and members of the Trusts Law Working Group, Foundations Law Working Group and Charities Law Working Group. 

Guernsey Finance appointed Kate Storey and Paul Sykes to join its board of directors, as representatives of the Guernsey International Business Association. Storey is a Guernsey advocate with over 22 years of experience as a commercial lawyer. Sykes is managing director of Aon Insurance Managers in Guernsey – Europe’s largest (re)insurance management company – which also includes the White Rock PCC and ICC companies. He originally trained with Royal Insurance, before setting up Aon’s operations in Malta and Gibraltar.

UK-based later life specialist Responsible Group, in which insurer Royal London has a 30 per cent stake, made two hires in its broker and lending arms. Tom Moloney joined Responsible Life as advice director while Chris Flowers was appointed intermediary sales director at lending arm, Responsible Lending. 

Cazenove Capital appointed Oliver York as portfolio director. The newly-created role follows the appointment of another senior hire in the North East, Stephen Wilson, portfolio director, who joined the firm in July 2022. York brings over 10 years’ experience in the financial services industry. 

Ocorian, a specialist in fund administration, capital markets, corporate and fiduciary services, hired Roel Langelaar as managing director of Ocorian for the Netherlands. Based in Amsterdam, he is responsible for client services, business development, relationship management and risk and compliance in the Netherlands. Langelaar brings more than 25 years' experience in the regulated international financial, corporate and client services delivery industry. He was most recently managing director and jurisdictional head of corporate services at Aztec Group.

Jupiter, the UK-based investment house, appointed Kiran Nandra-Koehrer as head of equities. She joined from Pictet Asset Management, where she has worked for seven years, most recently as head of emerging equities management. An internal promotion, Matthew Morgan was appointed head of fixed income in October, taking on the leadership and management of Jupiter’s fixed income investment professionals. He joined Jupiter from Blackrock in 2019 as investment director, multi-asset. Both people report to Matthew Beesley as CEO.

Edison Group, the international investor relations advisory business, appointed Andrew Keen as its new head of content for energy, industrials and resources. Keen has a range of experience gained in consulting, sell-side and buy-side advisory positions. 

InvestCloud, the wealthtech platform, appointed Michael Roth as president of digital planning. In this new role, Roth is responsible for growing the firm’s proposition to support even the most complex planning scenarios – such as tax, estate, cashflow and succession planning – while tailoring solutions to meet worldwide jurisdictional requirements.

RBC appointed Dave Thomas as head of RBC Europe. It also named Robin Beer as CEO for Wealth Management International and RBC Brewin Dolphin. Based in London, Thomas reports jointly to Doug Guzman, group head of RBC Wealth Management, RBC Insurance and RBC Investor & Treasury Services and Derek Neldner, group head of RBC Capital Markets. Thomas joined RBC in 1992. He became CEO of RBC Capital Markets Europe in 2011, leading all aspects of the business in the region. In 2019, he took on additional responsibility for wealth management in the British Isles. He continued in his role as CEO of RBC Europe. As part of the integration, Beer transitioned to take on leadership of both businesses and, ultimately, the combined business. Beer joined Brewin Dolphin in 2008 and has been chief executive since June 2020.

Julius Baer International hired Patrick Wilson as a senior relationship manager. Previously, he spent 16 years at Credit Suisse in London, where he was a managing director responsible for building a business focused largely on UK entrepreneurs and corporate executives. Ryan Perry joined as a relationship manager, bringing over 10 years of wealth management experience to the role. He was formerly at Credit Suisse.

Crestbridge appointed Anthony Lee as director, UK head of corporate services. Lee develops the firm’s services and solutions for corporate clients, including pre-IPO support, accounting, governance and depositary services for real estate investment trusts and other investment companies. With a career in finance, governance and business management spanning almost 30 years, Lee also has extensive expertise in the UK listed funds sector.  

Guernsey Finance, the promotional agency for the island’s financial services industry, appointed Aaron Russell-Davison as a business development representative in the Middle East. He is based in Dubai. Russell-Davison, who had a 30-year career in finance and banking, was previously Standard Chartered Bank’s global head of debt capital markets. Since retiring from that position in 2015, he has worked extensively as a non-executive director, notably at Amana Bank – an Islamic bank – where he also chairs its board integrated risk committee.

Ocorian, a provider of services to financial institutions, asset managers, corporates, high net worth individuals and family offices, appointed Ben Hill and Yegor Lanovenko as co-heads of global funds to accelerate Ocorian’s growth strategy. Hill has more than 20 years’ of financial services experience, having previously held a number of managing director and non-executive director positions. He is also managing director of Ocorian in Guernsey and will retain his country head responsibilities.

Seilern Investment Management, a growth investment management company, appointed two new research analysts: Akash Bhanot, CFA, formerly an equity analyst at Redburn and Charalee Hoelzl, CFA previously an investment manager at Ruffer. 

Shard Capital appointed Nick Davis as chief financial officer to ensure financial enhancements across the group. Davis has more than 12 years of financial services experience, having worked at several leading global investment management firms. Most recently, he spent six years as UK Financial Controller at Permira.

Offshore law firm Harneys elected William Peake as new global managing partner. Peake took over from Ross Munro, who returned to his previous role as CEO and chair of Harneys Fiduciary. Peake joined the firm in 2014 as a senior associate in the litigation, insolvency and restructuring group and was promoted to partner in 2017. 

AXA Investment Managers named two responsible investment experts. Clément Bultheel was appointed as sustainability coordinator, to work on AXA IM’s sustainability policies and coordination topics to support its ESG efforts. He joined from Quantis, where he worked as a sustainable finance consultant. Based in Paris, Bultheel reports to Clémence Humeau, head of sustainability coordination and governance. Benjamin Jacot was appointed ESG quantitative analyst. He joined from La Française, where he was a quantitative risk manager and financial engineer. Based in Paris, Jacot reports to Yolande Poulou, head of RI solutions, models, and tools in AXA IM’s Quant Lab.

EFG International appointed Ali Sandila as the new CEO of its Dubai Advisory Office. He succeeded Sascha Pietrek, who decided to step down as CEO in order to pursue personal interests. Sandila reports to François Farjallah, head of the Middle East Region. Sandila has over two decades of experience in the field of wealth management and private banking. He joined EFG in 2019, when the bank started operations in Dubai, and he has played a key role in growing EFG's business in this market over the last three years.

PIMFA, the UK trade association for wealth management, investment services and the personal investment and financial advice industry, appointed David Ostojitsch as director of government relations and policy. He reports to PIMFA’s chief executive, Liz Field. Ostojitsch previously worked at the Capital Markets Company (Capco), where he was managing principal for capital markets regulation and technology. The previous postholder at PIMFA was Tim Fassam, who left the organisation in August 2022 to join the Phoenix Group.

Germany-based Moonfare, the digital private equity platform, appointed senior fintech figure Jon Kalamuddin to join its global advisory board. Kalamuddin has been chairman of European fintech, Klarna, and has worked at firms such as ASOS and FarFetch. Separately, Moonfare also added Sanjay Gupta and Russell Lane to its investment team.

Kempen Capital Management, the investment management arm of Van Lanschot Kempen, appointed Chris Windeatt as director of its UK distribution team to boost its presence on the UK market. He was formerly at Cambridge Associates where he was associate director of business development. Windeatt has over 16 years of experience in financial services, having worked at companies including BlackRock, Legal & General Investment Management, and AK Jensen Group.

smartKYC, a multilingual semantic search engine, appointed Stephen Manly as the company’s new head of sales to drive revenue and sales team leadership. Manly has been a consultative, enterprise sales professional for more than 25 years. He spent the last six years developing his subject matter expertise in KYC processes and technology. He joined smartKYC from Fenergo, a CLM solution provider, where he sold their Client Lifecycle Management and KYC solutions in the UK.

Silicon Valley Bank Financial Group appointed Erin Platts as president of SVB Private and David Sabow as CEO of Silicon Valley Bank UK and head of EMEA, pending UK regulatory approval. Platts has been with SVB for more than 18 years, serving as head of commercial banking, UK and Europe for six years and most recently as head of EMEA and CEO of Silicon Valley Bank UK.

Close Brothers Asset Management appointed John Hair and Charles Insley as investment directors within CBAM’s Bespoke Investment Management team. Based in London, they are responsible for managing key relationships with CBAM’s clients. With over 28 years of experience in financial services, Hair joined from abrdn, where he was chief investment officer of its private client business. 

Insley also joined from abrdn, where he was head of international private clients. He has over 25 years of experience in financial services, both in investment management and working with private clients. 

Cazenove Capital, part of the Schroders Group, appointed Chris Arbuthnott as a portfolio director. In this newly-created role, he works with Bob Hair, Cazenove regional head of Scotland, to service the existing client base. He focuses on looking after clients in Aberdeen and the north of Scotland. He has more than 22 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including senior roles at Barclays Wealth and HSBC Private Bank. 

Ogier, the offshore law firm, appointed senior litigator Rebecca McNulty in Jersey. A senior member of the firm’s dispute resolution team, McNulty has been closely involved in the growth of Ogier's offering in Jersey.

Rothschild & Co hired six new relationship managers in its Zurich office, creating an additional onshore wealth management team. Aaron Keller, who joined as head of the new Swiss Onshore Zurich Executive & Entrepreneurs team, focuses on high net worth family executives and entrepreneurs in the greater Zurich area. Most recently, he was head of Entrepreneurs & Executives at Credit Suisse, leading the Greater Zurich region. Prior to that, he was a client advisor at both Rahn + Bodmer Co and UBS. He was joined by Philippe Neher, a lawyer and notary public who previously advised very wealthy clients at Zürcher Kantonalbank, and Jürg Kramis and Jonas Kessler, both of whom were client advisors at Credit Suisse in the Lake Zurich region.

Emanuel Grauwiler, who advised families with complex wealth situations at the multi-family office Swiss 5 Group and the private bank Hauck & Aufhäuser, also joined the team. In addition, Ueli Gnos joined another of Rothschild & Co's existing Swiss Onshore Zurich Wealth Management teams. He was previously a senior relationship manager at Bergos Private Bank.

LGT Wealth Management appointed Sanjay Rijhsinghani as chief investment officer. He took over from Jonathan Marriott, who retired after 40 years in the investment industry and nine years at the company. Rijhsinghani is a founding partner and is head of portfolio management at LGT Wealth Management. He has been at the firm since 2008 when he joined from UBS Wealth Management.

UK financial services firm Old Mill created three new partners. Chartered financial planners Jon Orchard and Julia Banwell, who are both part of the wealth management team, and Stephen Martin, who is director of tax, were the latest to be promoted, bringing the total number of partners in the firm to 22.

Janus Henderson appointed Michelle Dunstan as chief responsibility officer. She is responsible for overseeing Janus Henderson’s corporate responsibility and responsible investing efforts. She is based in the US and reports to Ali Dibadj, Janus Henderson’s CEO.

DWS appointed Paul M Kelly as global head of its alternatives franchise. He is based in New York. Previously, he was a senior managing director and chief operating officer of the credit division at Blackstone. He reports to DWS CEO Stefan Hoops.


North America
Raymond James welcomed Michael Mauseth to Raymond James Financial Services (RJFS) – the firm’s independent advisor channel. Mauseth joined the established team at Bell Wealth Advisors in its Juneau, Alaska office. Mauseth was previously affiliated with Wells Fargo where he managed approximately $100 million in client assets.

Raymond James welcomed financial advisor Howard Kaplan to its independent advisor channel. Kaplan joined the team at Riegel Financial. The firm, which has been established for 50 years, operates from offices in Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. Before this move, Kaplan was affiliated with Stifel, where he managed about $200 million in client assets.

The firm also welcomed financial advisors Steve Doucette and Collin Habig to the firm’s independent advisor channel. They are based in Plainville, Massachusetts. At Doucette Capital, the advisors are joined by registered sales assistant, Louise Boissel. Together they provide personalized and comprehensive financial planning to a variety of clients, specializing in those in or near retirement. 

UBS Wealth Management USA has appointed financial advisor and managing director Garth Allan in Newport Beach, California. He was joined by senior registered client service associate Catherine Rusk. Previously, he was at Wells Fargo where he served as a financial advisor in Orange County for more than 11 years. Before that, he was a financial advisor with Edward Jones for four years. 

Crédit Agricole CIB, the French group, appointed three senior regional officers for Asia-Pacific, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa. Among them was Stéphane Ducroizet, who took on the Americas post. He is based in New York. Ducroizet replaced Marc-André Poirier, who became chief executive of Crédit Agricole Indosuez Switzerland.

Cyndeo Wealth Partners – a business focused on NFL players – appointed former Merrill Lynch advisors Richard Thomas Havard and Michael Scott Crouch as vice presidents. They were joined by Arlene Alexander, senior client relationship manager. They operate remotely and report to Cyndeo’s headquarters in St Petersburg, Florida. Previously, Havard and Crouch were senior financial advisors at Merrill Lynch, managing about $250 million in client assets.

Next Capital Management appointed Frazer Rice as director of family office services. Rice is responsible for developing and implementing the firm’s family office services offering, which covers topics such as estate planning, intergenerational wealth transfer, and business transaction planning. Rice was previously the Northeast regional director for Pendleton Square Trust Company where he was responsible for building Pendleton’s Northeast presence and advising clients and their financial advisors on fiduciary issues. 

Banco Santander appointed one of its senior figures, Felipe García Ascencio, as chief executive of the bank’s Mexico business. He also became group country head for the country. García Ascencio replaced Héctor Grisi, who took over from José Antonio Álvarez as Banco Santander CEO. Previously, Garcia Ascencio, who joined Santander in 2020, was senior executive vice-president of Santander México.

Janus Henderson appointed Michelle Dunstan as chief responsibility officer. She is based in the US and reports to Ali Dibadj, Janus Henderson’s CEO. Previously, she worked for 18 years in various roles at AllianceBernstein.

Global law firm Dechert announced the appointments of new co-chairs. From July 1, 2023, partners David W Forti and Mark E Thierfelder will take up the roles and partners Sabina Comis and Vincent H Cohen, Jr will become the firm’s first global managing partners. 

The new leadership succeeds Andy J Levander, the firm’s chair since 2011, and Henry N Nassau, the firm’s CEO since 2016, when their leadership terms end on June 30, 2023.

Coastal One a broker-dealer and Registered Investment Advisor hybrid platform based in Wilmington, Delaware, said that its company executives have been put in industry leadership positions. They include Michael O’Connor, chief financial officer of CoastalOne, who was invited to join the Financial Service Institute’s 2023 Accounting & Finance Council. Amanda Teeple, senior vice president of CoastalOne Capital Markets, joined The Alternative & Direct Investment Securities Association’s 2023 board of directors.


Asia-Pacific
The Hong Kong Investment Funds Association appointed Julia Leung as its chief executive. 

Jason Moo, head of private banking of South-East Asia and branch manager of Singapore, stepped down from his position at Julius Baer to pursue opportunities outside the bank. He was replaced by Jimmy Lee as ad interim head of private banking South-East Asia and Benjamin Sim as ad interim branch manager of Singapore. Lee, a member of the executive board of Julius Baer Group, and head of Asia Pacific, took over as ad interim head of private banking of South-East Asia. He continues to lead the region in his current role. Sim, deputy branch manager of Singapore, stepped in as ad interim branch manager of Singapore, starting in December 2022.

Asia-based SuMi TRUST appointed Kei Ohashi as director of client services and global business development. Ohashi is based in the firm’s London office where he works alongside Shigeo Mito. Ohashi has more than 10 years’ experience in the asset management industry. Prior to his new role, he was the associate investment director for product management and distribution at SuMi TRUST in Tokyo. 

A senior figure at RBC Wealth Management in Asia, Nick Chan, left the Canadian group. Chan, based in Hong Kong, has been at the firm since December 2021, where he was head of private banking for North Asia, and subsequently head of sales for Asia.

Carsten Stoehr, the Greater China chief executive of Credit Suisse, left the firm, rounding out a 25-year-career at the bank. Stoehr was Greater China CEO and board chair for Credit Suisse (Hong Kong) and Credit Suisse Securities (Hong Kong).

Standard Chartered appointed Nick Huang as head, client coverage, Asia. He has more than 30 years’ experience in banking. Prior to this, Huang worked at East West Bank, where he was head of commercial banking. Before East West Bank, he served in senior roles at Chinatrust Commercial Bank, JP Morgan, China CITIC Bank International, and Citigroup. In his new role, Huang is based in Hong Kong and reports to Paul Skelton, global head, client coverage.

Raffles Family Office named Zann Kwan as chief investment officer and managing partner of Revo Digital Family Office. It also appointed Rizal Wijono as a member of the Independent Advisory Board. Revo is Raffles’ new digital family office offering. Kwan, who has almost 25 years’ professional and financial services experience, is based in Singapore. It also appointed Rizal Wijono as a member of the Independent Advisory Board. Wijono was most recently with Micro Connect Group where he was an MD in the investor relations team. 

Hang Seng Bank appointed Jordan Cheung as chief marketing officer, effective 19 December. Having worked in insurance, aviation, hospitality and retail, Cheung is an experienced business leader in Hong Kong and other regional markets. Prior to joining the bank, he was vice president, CRM and performance marketing at yuu, Dairy Farm International, the largest loyalty club in Hong Kong.

JP Morgan Private Bank appointed Ulysses Lau as head of investments and engagement for Asia. Lau succeeded Diana Robinson, who returned to London to carry out a similar role leading the investment advisor team for the firm’s UK, Ireland and Channel Islands business. Lau is based in Hong Kong. Reporting to Kam Shing Kwang, CEO for JP Morgan Private Bank in Asia, Lau implements investment plans for clients who have sophisticated financial needs based on their long-term goals and multi-generational objectives. Lau has more than 15 years of investment experience at the private bank in the region across different markets. Most recently he was the head of investments and advice for Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Federated Hermes hired Mei Lin Tan as director of wholesale distribution in Asia-Pacific. Reporting to Jakob Nilsson, head of APAC distribution, Tan is responsible for raising third-party assets and delivering new business targets in line with the APAC sales strategy. She is based in Singapore and worked in the banking and asset management sector for more than two decades. Prior to this, Tan worked for NN Investment Partners. 

Indosuez Wealth Management appointed three wealth management experts, including bankers, after establishing new market segments, including Southeast Asia and North Asia. The appointments included Sandy Chen, managing director, senior banker; Mark Chester Ng, executive director, senior banker and Sarah Lee, director, senior portfolio manager, asset management.
